Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Why are we treated like butterflies? (Opportunities for cost savings)

The janitorial staff come into the bathroom every time I'm in there, multiple times a day. Do we really need them cleaning the bathrooms 5 times a day? Or cleaning up the break room area 5 times a day? Why do we need such nice, expensive paper towels in the bathrooms? Don't get me started on the toilet paper quality compared to the bathroom paper towels. I stayed late one day and saw 4 janitorial staff one 1 floor, is that necessary?! Are we THAT slobby?! Get rid of Aravelli. Get rid of the dry cleaning. Keep NEBU but cut back on the quality. Sell that $100,000 rock that sits near the elevator bay. Or crush it up and use it as traction for when it snows outside so that I don't slip on the sidewalk - even that would be more practical than what it does now. Did we need a college frat party vibe at the 2018 company event at the Criterion? We could have sc-apped that event and just kept on working since we're all busy. Use most, if not all, of the divest money to pay back debt. Stop buying back more stock! Let's get our financial situation under control and start saving money so that we can reward our employees and buy other companies / assets. Institute an annual merit (cost of living) raise. Stop telling new hires that you pay out merit raises when you haven't paid one in the past 3 years unless you were promoted. Annual merit raises and bonuses MUST be paid out to keep employees happy, every year. Then, focus on promotions.

Stop treating us like butterflies! Treat us more like highly compensated harvester ants. As long as we feel valued, we are happy and will be loyal. That's the only way Devon will EVER change the culture.

Need hall passes to be out of your office. 2 5-min toilet breaks per day. Lighting needs to be dimmed a bit. Pay for your own water. And maybe trim the CEO’s salary. No. a never mind, use the savings to give the CEO a bigger salary.

If Devon really wanted to save money, we would investigate decisions made at the BU level the end up costing millions in waste.

Sell all the empty filing cabinets, only need one break area per floor, return that equipment , don’t need to stock paper plates, cups, plastic ware. One copy machine per floor, I could go on and on.

This is new Devon, where rank and file is made up and the productivity levels don’t matter. Because if it is allowed, it will continue.

So you don't care about the guy who is shaving everyday while on the clock, being paid to clean the locker room, but you care about cleaning staff watching TV. mmmkay.

Who cares about the janitor using the supplies in the well, which the well hasn’t provided in like 3 years, the dude probably makes 1/10th of what you do.

The day time cleaning staff in the tower spend more time watching the TV’s in the kitchen area than they do cleaning. The equivalent of the millennials and their 3 to 4 daily Aravalli breaks

If there's water on the floor and someone slips and cracks their head, that's a $5M lifetime earnings lawsuit. That's why someone cleans the bathroom 5 times a day. OSHA + lawyers are why we can't have nice things.

Speaking of janitorial staff and this is when I was last there a few years ago...one of them from south of the border was hired to clean the mens locker room at the WELL every morning. Every time, he would shave using the razors and shaving cream provided to the members. Some of the mornings, he would brush his teeth and put on deodorant using the amenities provided to the members. He would do this right in front of me, not trying to be inconspicuous. Then, his morning "cleaning" was just putting towels away and spraying air freshener throughout the locker room.
