Well here we go again...T as most likely headquarters spending to much but as usual everyone who should be able to travel for meaningful network support are to blame. How about the world traveler Mr. Simpson who has racked miles in 1Q over what most employees have throughout their career. For what; a “photo Op” at each shop and an opportunity to give them his words of wisdom. This all happening just before another major layoff and everyone else confined by “No internal” travel. Last I knew visiting shops... was internal travel. Mr. Strazik start holding your direct staff to the same rules as anyone else...the hipocracy has to stop in the dire environment we’re in if you expect what’s left of the team to follow.

What makes a team impossible to lead is when a culture values perception over reality. See the previous comments on photo ops. Don't defend those. They are a symptom of the problem.
The bubble was a bubble. The problem of the business is that too many people think it’s still the bubble & that makes a team that is impossible to lead. Stop living in the past and start looking to the future.
There is no doubt that he is a hard worker and smart. There is also no doubt that he fits in GE power’s culture which has repeatedly failed since the bubble. Will things be better under him? Maybe. Maybe not. I doubt it. There is no harm in photo ops except the fact that the importance of photo ops to GE is a strong symptom of the repeated failures for the past fifteen years. Time will tell and we are all depending on him. Excuse the cynicism and angst.
I worked for Richard. You will not find a harder working and smarter person in the company. Granted, you don’t want to be on his sh**list, but if you know your stuff and can prove that to him over time, he will be your biggest defender.
He has paid his dues to fly first class across the globe. And frankly, it’s good employee policy to allow anybody to fly first class across the Atlantc or the Pacific! It takes a toll and you are expected to perform immediately upon landing. He doesn’t do just photo-ops. In many cases the team members will learn more from Richard in an hour than a month on the job, i can guarantee that.
Stop hating on Richard. He is just trying to keep morale up and insure everyone keeps a good focus on making the numbers.
