Thread regarding Juniper Networks Inc. layoffs

I got out 18 months ago

And it was the best move I ever made. There IS growth and a career path and happiness in tech. Just not at Juniper. Anyone still there is either milking RSU’s or not attractive to other employers. That’s the word in the valley and hiring managers are starting to avoid J referrals. Get out before Juniper 2020 on your resume is a liability. Best move you’ll ever do. Regards to my former colleagues.

@Yc1BU18-dgbq FANG is attainable. You just can't be lazy about it. It's all about prep.

And yes, the behemoth Cisco is a natural fit for Juniper employees. The only thing is that they do fire a lot as well as they're transitioning to software/cloud. At least their layoffs aren't every quarter! Arista is another growth giant and they don't lay off. Lots of Juniper people there too.

The best thing to do is to tag your skills closest to those growth areas rather than hardware. That sill give your career at least a decade more longevity.

Even if you cannot land a job at FANG, it's pretty easy to get a job at another vendor (Cisco!) or service provider. Everyone I know who got laid off landed jobs within 6 months. And yes majority of folks are now happier. I'm now at Cisco and frequently bump into ex Juniper folks at Cisco! Actually more of them jumped to Cisco rather than waiting to get laid off... Looking back I wish I had left for Cisco years ago. I stayed at Juniper for 14 years, the first 8 of which were actually good before the downward spiral began.. To my friends still at Juniper: if you think you're in a dead end job with a toxic management and working on a c-appy project, then start looking for jobs before they lay you off!

Undoubtedly when you experience superior company cultures elsewhere, one thinks WTF did I waste all that time my former company.

Of course, one experiences politics elsewhere, but the environment is on whole other tier of superior!

It's akin to being in a terrible relationship and then running into your soul mate. The vibe is very soul stirring similar.

Thank you for the encouragement. After working in this type of environment confidence is low.

Write your resume now and start circulating it. Update your LinkedIn and let recruiters know you are looking. Reach out to friends and ex colleagues: they will support you!! Start prepping and applying for all jobs.

Tech is still very strong!! Just move forward and do it!!

Best of luck to everyone!!!

I moved out a year ago to FANG, and it was one of the best career decisions i ever made. Work outside of juniper is great!
