Thread regarding Anadarko Petroleum Corp. layoffs

Uh oh!

I can’t say I’m excited OXY won. Has anyone ever been to OXY’s and Chevron’s offices in Houston? I have, and the difference is stark. Chevron has installed itself in a new gleaming tower downtown. Lots of windows and open spaces. Large offices. Fancy atriums. All sorts of food-laden receptions for employees. Tanned, smiling faces.

OXY meanwhile is in a 1960’s era structure over in Greenway Plaza. Few windows. Dark and dungeon like. A reception area that could fit into one of Chevron’s conference rooms decorated with artwork from a chain retailer. Somehow, they didn’t get the memo about creating a compelling office environment to attract talent.

Get ready for the shock of shocks people! Paying for coffee and all that. Most of us will likely never see the insides of any of the OXY offices, but that honestly may not be the worst outcome.

Hum, OXY moving to COP old digs. I cant fathom looking out my wind up at a reservoir wall, that held back water and crested during Harvey. This campus was shutdown for several weeks after Harvey. BP office across street was shutdown for months. But, it is a great location and beautiful campus. Once they renovate it will look like new ... I would recommend putting life jacket in your office. Energy Corridor is where many top majors are located - BP, Shell, COP, Transoceanic, Worley, Technip, Wood, etc. If you are moving into area, check out Lakes of Parkway. I lived there when worked at BP and its a safe place to live and its all custom homes in a gated community ... like Carlton Woods but without the sky high cost.

Ha-ha... not worth mentioning really, but since someone brought it up... not only is coffee free now, but so are soft drinks from soft drink dispensers on every floor at Oxy.

@bhe... I will lose half my PTO and have to drive an hour to get to work, spend money on tools, etc... Honestly the pension isn't as good as APCs. I live in The Woodlands for reasons that I don't have to explain to you, so before you say 'just move', it's not that easy to just 'take it with a grain of salt'. I grew up on the west side of town (Katy), lived out there for 20 years and it's not these same as it was. It has nothing to do with their ammenities, it has to do with quality of life.

“Bring to the table”, did you say @ppj? OXY’s tables have nothing on the ones seen over at Chevron. Good luck to you if you end up at OXY. You won’t like it over there. I’ve got 27 years with APC and I’m nearing 62. I’m outta here, kiddo, severance check and all.

I am looking forward to working with Oxy. Get over the chock, proactively look for a job or market your services to Oxy. It is all about what you bring to the table.

New campus is going to be very nice and is being totally refurbished. I saw plans of cafeteria, recreation items like pool, and even a place for a daycare. People on this board do not know what they are talking about, so take it with a grain of salt. You could do a lot worse than work for Oxy. They have just as much if not better benefits than APC, and there CEO is so much better than RAW. This is not the old Oxy, but a more progressive Oxy under a great CEO who actually spends time with the rank and file employees.

Oxy won't move to the Woodlands unless Hollub wants to drive to the Woodlands and is willing to lose half her employees who don't want to make the commute.

Nobody knows sh-- right now. Don't believe anything unless it's in writing. You're being managed.

Oxy bought COPs campus in the energy corridor and is currently renovating to move in next year. But who knows, Oxy may just move into Anadarko Tower.

And Oxy has plenty of free coffee and soda.

APC was about half the market cap of Oxy prior to the Chevron bid. APC is getting acquired, sold off in pieces and their employees will, no-doubt, be unemployed by year end with the exception of a few field employees in the Permian. Oxy has played their cards better than APC to the present.

ksv, Oxy has a modest approach to unnecessary spending? But not to acquire a company nearly their size, right? Or to take out a 10B loan with 8% interest to manage it?

Maybe Oxy plans to move?

Maybe Oxy's modest approach to unnecessary spend is why they are buying Anadarko, and Anadarko is.... Anadarko. Getting parted out. Overpriced towers with their free coffee, along with the low performing employees they contain that destroyed the value of a once great company.

In the pursuit of maximizing his and the board's take, true core values are exposed. they are feel good phrases for the minions, but not the masters. oxy is not the better fit.
