I work for a vendor that provides G&G services to oil & gas companies of all sizes. This is not just one man's opinion, but that of most of my colleagues on the business development side of things...
The Anadarko G&G folks (especially the geophysicists who work in gatekeeper positions in HQ - we used to call them the 'Seventh Floor Guys' (and yes, they were all guys) were just about the most arrogant, clueless folks we had to deal with around the world. No surprise to us that they got taken out. They were more interested in pushing paper and acting as Stalinist bureaucrats vs finding any meaningful quantities of hydrocarbons. We had good relationships with the G&G teams in the operating units, but the HQ folks just blocked anything of consequence that any of their field-deployed teammates wanted to do.
I have no idea if this type of culture permeates the entire APC organization but, honestly, am glad to see them get taken out. Good riddance - couldn't have happened to a worse group of geos!
