Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Stealing PPTO?

Just wondering if anyone knows if Walmart can steal our PPTO like they did with our sick time? I'd like to build up a good safety net worth of PPTO like I had with my accrued sick time, I just don't want to get burned and have thousands of dollars worth of earned/accrued time stolen again.

Can this company really be trusted after stealing our sick time. I would use your PPTO as you accrue it on key dates, no sense hanging onto it and risking having Walmart steal that too

The question was if they will steal it like they did with our sick time, not how much could be carried over year to year.

It takes 1 year to earn 48 hours ppto. There is NO limit on PPTO accruing yearly. 1st year 48 hours, 2nd year 96 hours, etc. BUT, and I mean BUT: you can not have a COMBINED total of PTO and PPTO over 80 hours AT END OF YEAR, until your PPTO reaches 80 hours.

AGAIN THIS WOULD BE FOR END OF YEAR PAYOUT:

PPTO HOURS PTO HOURS

48 32

80 0

96 0

It is illustrated in PPTO policy, try reading it.

What I want to know is why they can't turn our accrued sick time into PPTO??? I guess that would defeat the purpose of stealing it...

Yes, Walmart will gladly steal your PPTO just like they stole your sick time. They'll probably wait a few years so you can build a bunch up and at that point they'll steal it to pad profits. Not sure why anybody would want to work for this greedy unethical company.

It doesnt really matter how much you accrue, you get a point a day off. I was very ill with a fever and called off - still awarded a point.

Unfortunately the previous poster is probably correct, it depends on the laws in your state. It's pretty sad that we can't count on Walmart to do what's right and ethical unless a law forces them to. If something isn't specifically protected by law you can count on Walmart stealing it from you. Just look at our stolen sick time, everyone knows it was wrong but Walmart doesn't care because they found a legal way to steal from their own employees. What a great company to work for...

There’s no maximum on how much PPTO you can have. You can only accrue 48 hours in a fiscal year, but unlike regular PTO, PPTO always rolls over no matter how much you have, so people who use very little will be able to build up a substantial balance over time.

Can the company take it away from you? Depends. Most states treat PTO pay like vacation pay when it comes to laws about what employers can do, and state laws on vacation time are all over the place. Only a couple are explicit and generous enough that I would count on them as protection if the company decided to change the rules in mid-game again.

As if right now no, but as you know Walmart changes constantly. What is no today can be yes tomorrow.
