At my store it seemed for a while that the stress and anxiety were a little lesser among the workers and now people are talking about layoffs again. Is there any point staying at this company and going through the stress all over again?

If you are part timing it yes. Go in, collect your check, deal with minimal customers, follow Eddie’s latest ingenious protocol that is sure to turn things around.
Run Forest Run!
"You should stick around....blah blah blah..."
To collect unemployment?????
Things are not going to turnaround....The store closings will continue until there is nothing left.
Eddie is only looking to sell off the remaining assets.
You should stick around. Times are tough right now, but sales should improve with the new plans in place. Those who ride it out will be rewarded with generous pay, benefits, and advancement. But it may take a while to get all of the customers back into the stores again. You can help by nudging your friends and family into the stores, and by presenting the stores in a positive light on social media.
Not only still in charged three stooges also got pay raise and retention bonus, some people knew how to grease that wheel, life is super great for them, don't need to achieve anything but grease that broken wheel,
The same guy that was in charge and drove the company into bankruptcy is still running the show....."Insanity is doing things the same way and expecting different results"....
With Eddie Lampert still in charge, the company will likely continue its decline into oblivion.
Anyone still around working for this train wreck is a real masochist or in plainer language a " major league glutton for punishment " - 😧👌
It's a paycheck for very little work. It's a graveyard inside our store.
