SAP acquired 27 companies between 2011 and 2018.
That's 3 companies/year.
Getting that many apps, teams, and companies working together is just impossible.
Even point to point integration is a nightmare because these apps were never designed to work together.

It was not so much the acquisitions but the investment afterwards. Closing security, data, and integration gaps should have been priorities. Customers buy SAP for reduced integration headaches and solid data models for end to end processes. DBS and partners are having to achieve these outcomes on a project by project basis.
I don't want to rub the wounds and the wounded however if SAP could not get any new innovative product developed internally then there is no other alternative than buying new products from outside.
By Design was most likely the last (and massive) straw that broke the camel's back.
Getting the new applications integrated is totally possible if this is given TOP PRIORITY. First year after acquisition, all developers of the acquired company focus on integration. And they get 1-for-1 support from the SAP Labs. That is a lot of man.years of development. After 1 year, it is done.
The excess # of acquisitions without integration ever really completed raises the question of what SAP‘s board-of-control (German ‚Aufsichtsrat‘) is actually controlling.
It seems that there is zero governance on the companies fate from these high-paid time-wasters. It needed Elliot to enforce attention to efficiency and stock-value.
