Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

Store #0875

Man things really have changed haven’t they? I used to work in the San Mateo California store three or four years ago. We did really well, we made between 7-8 million in sales every year. I was in a bind yesterday and I needed to buy toner for my office. Apparently that same store I worked at before has been closed for over a year per the target employee that was next-door. If that store couldn’t survive I don’t think that gives much hope for the rest of the staples stores in the states. Good luck!

Bad lease. 4 or 5 shops in Bridgepointe have left. The landlord is charging 4x increases. Staples was t at fault here. Store was good. Just unfortunate NorCal real estate profiteering

San Mateo wasn't profitable due to the terms of the lease iirc

if your story was the only 1 of its' kind it might somehow be explainable. There are dozens & dozens of stores that made money and were closed in the last 3 years or so, it is baffling to me. Perhaps someone out there knows the reasoning behind closing profitable stores?
