There is a lot of fat in SAP

There is a lot of fat in SAP: people who spend their time just networking or creating confusing powerpoint, management travelling around the globe in business class for no outcome, etc. If Elliott can streamline SAP's organization, it will have a direct impact on bottom line.

SAP also needs to face the harsh reality: how many new products were developed internally in the last 15 years (before the M&A wave)? We could talk at length about SAP ByDesign, how much was invested, how many people worked on it and how many paying customers today........

All new SAP products have been coming from M&A, rightly or wrongly. And of course, it comes with issues as well like integration, UI, architecture, etc

SAP fat is always in the mid Management layer. Those who talk but don’t carry numbers.

the fat is not just in Germany, contrary to some views. Look at US (e.g. NSQ) or Canada.... Home office 100% of the time, joining calls only to show presence and not taking any action item, leaving the call while receiving a parcel for the delivery man (5min disruption for every one) etc. what kind of work ethic is this?

Trimming the "real fat" at SAP is long overdue ... There are so many directors and line managers that's been at the trough for so long that they have become complacent of their behaviour. In many cases, they are protected by the boys/girls clubs that they are part of so they will all continue with their reckless and irresponsible behaviours.

Seriously, how many directors (without any direct reports) do we have at SAP? Let's run a report and see how much these directors are costing SAP. Based on their real contribution, I don't think too many of these individuals can really justify their position but who is going to challenge them. You will be the one that is cut if you question their behaviour and accountability.

The politics at SAP are brutal and the place runs with a mob mentality. I hope that someone will wake up, take some action and do a real shake down this time ....

The problem is most of the fat is in Germany but they can’t cut it due to Unions and labor laws.

So they have to cut muscle in other locations.

Adding to the initial post: ... and these acquisitions have not been rationalized and integrated with the expected rigor.

Worse: the former owners habe routinely been given role and opportunity to wreak maximum havoc on the relevant SAP components before their departure - example: SAP CRM/Hybris.
