This person is 100% correct.

There are two specific tactics used during some RIF's that can bit you in the a$$ in terms of not being eligible for re-hire. If eityher applies then don't bother:

1: Your boss checked a little tiny box on your severance/termination letter than says you are not eligible for rehire (that is suppopsed to be checked/not checked at the time you sign -- but you never know with some of those people)

2: The severance / voluntary termination letter you signed in order to get any kind of compensation (lump sum, continuing paychecks until you found another job, etc, etc) included a clause that read you agree not to apply for future employment with "The Company."

If either applies then you agreed to not re-apply.

Some in the second category have attempted to re-apply only for the hiring manager to be told the applicant was ineligible for consideration. HR is not f***ing around on whatever you previously agreed to-- would expose them to litigation

What if you were RIF'd, and so was your boss, and so was your bosses boss, and so was your bosses bosses boss. Yep. that was the good times webinar layoff the did last year, from my level and those around me all the way up to the group VP. Special fun times!

Yes, for a few reasons:

  1. Management is a revolving door. The content department re-hired a handful of people simply because the current managers never met the people that previously left. So far all of the people who came back have already left a second time.

  2. Depends on the department, but the content is desperate for people. People leave in groups, and most new hires don't get past the Glassdoor reviews.

  3. Why would you do this to yourself?

It's a free market the last time I checked so yes you can re-apply but if you left not agreeing with their decision to let you go perhaps or felt they were nasty to you only re-join them with your eyes open to what sort of company you are re-joining and naturally make sure you get a good market rate deal, trust is a two way thing after all.

If on the other hand you hand on heart knew your role really was no longer worthy of being kept and you left on as good as terms as possible treat it as a life experience and go for it. You can show them that you are better than them and can be forgiving.

The thing to remember about being let go as hard as it can be is never take it too personally and chances are the manager who is letting you go is hating having to do it, the decision probably came from above.

Good luck if you re-join!

Why would you want to re-apply to a company that's slowly circling the drain. There's no reason to believe that they won't lay you off again in a short period of time.

(ex-hiring manager here): It really depends on how your manager when let go marked down your exit. I was very surprised to find out that a manager was marking all his layoffs as "do not rehire" - I had worked in management for almost 10 years, the guy who marked them was less than a year in, HR would not allow me to rehire and said it required the CEO's buy-in, which they would not risk for the laid off employee.

My real question would be: Why? If you live in any of the cities CDK has offices (in the US), there's a huge tech hiring boom. Goto meetups, hiring events, post on linkedIn. The reason you were let go hasn't been erased from their memories. Just brush yourself off and move on.

Maybe if you’ve since relocated to India.
