Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

Will outsourcing happen?

I know this is always a danger for the US based workers, so I guess the answer would be more or less obvious, but more concrete, has anybody heard about any specific plans regarding a wave of outsourcing some more segments of the company?

Well, lets think about this. We have open seats (empty offices) now in San Diego and have lowered our San Diego head count from 15k to about 12k if not more, and you won't be moving India based engineers to another India based office, if so that would be minimal. So my thought is shutdown all buildings in SD except for Morehouse (N, QRC, T and maybe M) leaving the VP's and critical people here in SD, making the new head count in SD about 2-3k. This would k--l most of support teams in SD. Many teams have already been sent over to India already as well. Funny thing is, I am at Qualcomm everyday and NEVER see traffic or people traffic like we did 6 years ago, so easy to get parking now and find an open office to borrow for the day. My guess is that only 5-7k of workers even show on a daily basis, if that.

Will it happen? It's already happened, a lot. Will more outsourcing happen, yes it will. How much more? A lot. As mentioned in public press releases there's a huge campus under construction in India. Huge and not to accommodate current overcrowding, intent is to shift jobs from the United States to India.

Big campus in India being built. You tell me what that means. It’s called “geo-shifting” now by the way.
