Thread regarding Sears layoffs

Store #2104, st.clairsville ohio closing

As previously announced, this location at the Ohio Valley Mall will close within a month as soon as liquidators come in. The lease was NOT up at this location, it was a stealth closure, the lease had 4 more years remaining. Sears wanted to sublease half the store, post bankruptcy, beginning the process without informing the mall management on thier plans. The mall owners refused this ploy, i'm assuming this nullified the lease as Sears was the only one expected to occupy the location. The owners have long saw the writing on the wall and wanted them out and release the property back to the mall. Yes, this company is a dumpster fire and will not last but fast Eddie is still conniving to the very end

Post bankruptcy the leases don't mean anything. Technically they are gone and Eddie can dump them anytime he wants to. All he has to do is cite the bankruptcy. Your 4 year lease and any other leases are day to day. Granted, it appears your store may have closed for other reasons than the lease and yes you are right that the mall owners want Sears out of their malls.

I don't blame them. I wouldn't want a cancerous place like Sears in my mall. Course this kind of sh-- will be happening more and more as time goes on. Sears trying to pull fast ones as they shut stores down with any sort of fanfare.

Once again, those 45,000 jobs Eddie SO DESPERATELY wanted to save seems to be full of hot air and BS.
