Thread regarding DeVry Inc. layoffs

The job market is tougher than we might think

I am a former DeVry full-time Professor who was blessed to have been hired as a,full-time professor at a community college last year. I had been at DeVry 17 years. While it is true community college jobs are out there, they are difficult to get. I applied to many different community colleges for 10 years before being hired. During those 10 years of applying, I only had 3 second interviews. There were many times I didn't get an interview at all.

My advice would be to initially apply for part time teaching jobs. If you have that on your resume, it will definitely help. Of course, you never know how long it will take. But don't stop applying. Whenever you see an opening where you think you fit, send your stuff in. You have nothing to lose.

Think we should all look at this post from @YmYo8IG-rlno as some good advice. Even though the job hunting doesn't have to turn out this way, it’s always beneficial to prepare for the worst case scenario

American education is bad soup to nuts: K-12 ranges from babysitting to prison pipeline. Many students emerge with few skills, can't write, can't critically think, lack creativity and innovation, and have little interest in the discovery of new knowledge. They go to college like sheeple, herded in by parents and society. They graduate, still remedial as thinkers, writers, and researchers. So, it's a mess. And an ignorant, undiscerning, worshipper of feelings and personality is the result.

CCs not only have high expectations, but they expect a lot of work: heavy teaching loads, in many (most?) CCs anticipate high remediation; and thre are service loads, too. But, those gigs are still better than that which shall not be named. Education under challenging circumstances is, at least, the focus...
