Thread regarding CGG Veritas layoffs

Age a liability

Is it just me, or has age become a liability at CGG? Everybody in their fifties and above (and in some cases late forties) seem to be the first to be considered when it comes to layoffs. I'm not sure how is this okay, since age discrimination is illegal, but at least to me it seems like it keeps happening over and over again.

Am I wrong?

Let's see...we can keep the 50-somethings who led (as managers or operational/technical leaders) this company into oblivion...or we can try to rise from the ashes with new, innovative, and less expensive new blood.

Yes...let's keep the dinosaurs and let them have another go!

It's also illegal to hire Chinese workers when there are plenty of Americans available to do the same work in Houston. Why let the law get in the way of hiring cheap labor right ...

PGS lost 65 MUSD Q12019 (40 MUSD Q12018), I expect a similar Q12019 result from CGG in the near future. I also expect more CGG layoffs in the near future. The main problem is not age or oil price.

Hey @YIydgcx-eeo, did you know that 46.88% of all statistics are made up?

It seems (from hearsay) that CGG would rather lose "expensive" experienced staff and replace with grads and juniors on < half their salaries.

A good idea to save costs in the short term, but if they get busy with lots of technical processing projects (like the good old days) then they might struggle with lack of experience.

When wasn't age a liability? If your over 50 the chances are over 60% that you won't be staying in your current job by choice.
