Thread regarding Qualcomm Inc. layoffs

If things are so great, Why are people jumping ship?

Seems that many people think that our troubles are behind us. The dispute with Apple has been straightened out, our business practices are relatively safe, and 5G , which is marked as the biggest profit maker in the future is just around the corner. If that is the case then why do i see people jumping sheep leaving for greener pastures. Why do executives leave for our competitors, why do I read about people settling for less paying jobs at other companies?

Sad to say, there is no big company that treats employees as assets in today's world regardless of platitudes. So that should not be a reason to leave. Source : personal experience having worked at a FAAANG.

The friends that I personally know that are still working there are not happy. They think this is just a reprieve until further bad news hits. It is also very stressful now, because there are less people doing a lot of different things and some of it is addressing all the legal affronts that have been encountered. Also, the company's top management has shown their true hand the last several years. When things get tough, they will jettison people at will. It follows this logic. Eventually, something bad will happen again no matter how good things may be now, and when it does, we will have to layoff more people. My advice is to use this as a reprieve and to reset your career at a place which has better stability and treats people like an asset. I worked there about 11 years ago and it used to be a great place. It is sad to see what has happened actually

Happy I left this place. They got lucky that Intel backed out from the modem. Management takes it proudly but doesn't mean they are suddenly great. I wish them the best.

I left because it was a f---ing disaster. Whole groups of my peers offshored. Depressing as hell. i lost faith in SM and got tired of the smoke screen that everything is fine q lost its way. Its a money machine. No one gives a sh-- about innovation anymore. I couldnt stomach it anymore. It is amazing how much a non toxic environment can be. Im actually enjoying work and working on teams that value data driven decisions. I joined q because i believed in the work. Being honest with myself, even my wife said my soul died 3 yrs ago. I am proud of the last 12 yrs. Was time to move on.i sold all my remaining stock before the spike, im genuinly happy for those that made small fortunes. But dont worry, steve m will find a way to f--- it all up. God speed to those left find meaningful work, and leave when you dont. Its not worth it

OP, you don't work with us, do you. The place is rather depressing, especially for those of us who worked here before SM became CEO. Recent stock run is nice, but work environment ain't so good, the weight of more jobs Geo shifting to India, and more bad stuff makes it no fun to come in every day.

With Apple aggressively developing a world class modem they may never design in another Qualcomm RFFE.

Why? Because Qcom was being beaten down by all the lawsuits which have been running for years. Bad press and no end in sight, books $ are dropping, of course Q had to make the adjustments to stay afloat to include layoffs which is a good way btw of getting rid of dead weight. Tim Crook was bluffing all this time but good ole Stevie... MY former boss during the Globalstar days held tough. Good for him. I am now retired.... but riding the second wave of the unbelievable stock run-up since 1999. Oh.. want to dine out high end tonight ... sell one share of QCOM. LOL...

For those that left on their own before the announcement, bet your bottom dollar they wish they didn't. But that was on the cards then. I bet a mad rush to the HR doors for hire/rehire again... just like back in 1976 thru 78. Alot of you kiddies were not born yet. I am proud QCOM stuck to their guns thru=out all this... and are now reaping the rewards. Just another QCOM millionaire here
