Thread regarding Sungard Availability Services layoffs

Don’t be surprised!!!

Listen I don’t work at SGAS anymore. I left to go to what I thought was a better place. I was an avid reader and contributor to the posts on this site and quite frankly let it influence me way too much. After being in several roles since SGAS I am now interviewing to rejoin the team.

Sure there are challenges there, like anywhere else. But there is also an unbelievable culture with a strong need for your services in the market place. Just look at all the companies like flexential, Rackspace and Tierpoint now leveraging the brand and niche of Resilience.

Don’t be surprised when you get another job and realize it’s just that. A job, nothing more and the culture is flat and unrewarding.

Last poster, do everyone a favor and leave - dinosaurs like you only bring everyone down.

Yeah, the devil you know is better than the devil you don't know. As with any company, SunGard is a big place and everyone's experience is different. I hope you come back to the productive culture you were familiar with when you left. That being said, I doubt the atmosphere you left will match the experience you find now. As an employee of SunGard for 15 years, morale is on a steep decline. No offense, but I don't know why you'd decide to come back now unless you've got nothing to lose. From my standpoint, most of the coworkers I was close to were laid off long ago - good people that were productive, and whom I was close to. When I started, SunGard was a great place, with a great culture But, as you term it, now, it's 'just a job.' I was here when SunGard truly cared about it's customers. Then I saw it cater to the bottomline.. I hope you recapture the magic, but, having been here as long as I have, I'm skeptical. You folks talking about flexibility and a great culture must be well positioned, because where I'm sitting I'm seeing perpetual cuts to the point where viable operations are unsustainable.

Agreed, finding a place with flexibility and great culture is a challenge. Find a company that is also growing, with great culture and flexibility is more challenging. Research the mgmt and where they came from will tell you a lot. I too left sungard and found what I personally need, growth, being valued and appreciated is key. Sungard has been declining for years, and public cloud wont save them. BUT. I guess we will soon what happens soon.

Agree, there's this tendency to search for the perfect job, an employment panacea, but neither exist really. In the end, a job is just that a job and matters very little in comparison to friends, family, your health and that of your friends and family.
