i work at essendant. tried telling my co-workers what kind of cut throat tactics sp is notorious for but it goes in one ear and out the other. with the latest news about the debt they are sticking staples with so they can recoup their investment i am wondering how that is going to trickle down to us.
any thoughts?
That’s all SP knows, words and a coat of paint. Staples has been patching an AS system from 1985 to make it work. SP promised to improve that system and make the necessary investment to bring Staples to at least 2001. But window dressings, repainting trucks and calling it transformation still leaves the pipes leaking, mold behind the walls and a crumbling foundation.
But hey have we got a deal for you.......
mmmm..... here at essendant we have been screaming for new scan guns and an upgrade to the wireless system (which drops signal constantly) for years but they are putting a new coat of paint on the office walls and fixing the leaking roof instead of making improvements that help us do our job. "capital improvements". isn't this the sort of thing you do when you're getting ready to sell your house?....

Yep, your screwed. I’m sure management has feed you the line of how great this investment is, that now we have the flexibility to change corporate structure without the oversight of the SEC, that nothing will change, that SP will bring new life, etc etc etc.
My advice, the words they use arent lies only mis direction. Watch what they do not what they say. They will say things that on the outside are true but have a duplicitous meaning. Nothing will change means nothing will change for the chosen, flexibility to change without scrutiny means we will lay people off and load Essedent with debt and take out money and run. Etc etc.
Being bought by a PE is never good for you or your fellow associates.
