March layoffs at CareFirst

The layoffs continue and begin again in March 2019 after promises after January 2019 that everyone was "safe" for the remainder of the year.

Any chance we can get more info about it? I haven't heard about more March layoffs, and I'm wondering how I managed to miss something like that.

Dude, clearly you can’t see what is in front of most people. A non-profit is not a charity, it’s a business too that has to deliver to its shareholders ... the constituent group is supports ... i.e. the members in the community they serve. They can’t do that if they can’t be in trend with the market, otherwise get ready for an Anthem to acquire. Think people. Stop speculating, clearly you don’t know. Nothing in the news and if so bad and hostile, file a complaint and see what happens.

I somewhat agree with comments shared even though this sounds like the CIO or one of his schedulers turned manager/ director.

I say these layoff are coming this week and if you dont believe it your a fool. You have kids working at Deloitte and West Monroe (I'm sure kick backs are being given wink wink) that are making decisions that best suits their org.

Folks just look at Anthem they are doing the same thing and using Deloitte. West Monroe is a small 25 person kids company used by the CIO. He has used them before. Wink wink

I guess what's amazing is that this is a non profit company trying to be run like a for profit. Didn't take note from past huh new CEO who just obtain his college degree as a VP. Wow I won't go there. Just say privilege.

CEO is there to use CareFirst as a stepping stone for his next gig and CIO for a WM partnership while leaving hundreds of folks in bad shape.

Firm believer in what come around goes around folks.

The bad situation was a cultural one. Not making light or taking this in a lax perspective. You have to be realistic. There has been a lot of waste, much under the nose of some senior level departures, and those under them. I can certainly name people by name, but we don’t need to do that. Again, if so unhappy, leave, and go be “happy” elsewhere. Complaining about CareFirst and then saying they love the company is contradictory. Being an employee does not mean job for life, the market changes, the need for different skills changes, and the skills & people that got the company into the situation they are in are not the ones to get them out of it to really be an innovative and top customer focused company. If you owned a business, worked in consulting, or have been in a leadership role you would “get” this.

[If you have great skills, a good attitude, and actually contribute you should be good.]

Sometimes a bad situation catches everyone, stop making everyone worry about their contribution. Plenty of strong contributors have been let go and more may follow. Yes, if folks are unhappy they can leave, but maybe they really like working at CareFirst, find the work interesting and don't want to be unceremoniously dumped on the curb. There is definitely life after CareFIrst, but don't make light of what people are going through right now.

If you have great skills, a good attitude, and actually contribute you should be good. If you’re unhappy you can always leave. Take charge of your life and stop complaining! I left and got anew gig. Chances are those complaining, can’t.

"Safe" is a relative term these days, stop believing leadership when they say layoffs are over since they clearly enjoy lying to associates, work on your resume and start searching for a new job
