So few things, first of all it's not a "special" pension plan. It is the current pension plan that has been in place for well over 20 years. Secondly the pension funding was included in a OEB sanctioned rate increase years ago and is funded by the rate payers and at last check is currently over funded. Third the company has no plans to apply to the OEB for a decrease in the rate and plans on diverting that money towards general revenue. Lastly the 81% strike vote is for the bargaining region know as the south, local 999 had it's industrial storage and transmission people break off to negotiate separately and have yet to vote on the matter but it's anticipated that their support for the strike will be far greater. So the reality is a company taking money from a fully funded pension to divert it to general revenue, cuts to benefits that will hit the sick and disabled the hardest all while making record profits because a promise was made to shareholders to save a dollar amount pulled from thin air.
Original poster is ill-informed. That local is just one piece of a much bigger pie.
Strike vote is confirmed for UG employees. It's posted on the union board.
What strike vote? I literally can't find any mention of it anywhere online except here.
Using google search for "unifor 8833 enbridge vote to strike" and the first two posts are to here.
No combination or subset of the words "enbridge, unifor, vote, strike" brings up anything in the last month.
So, pony up or go away. Prove it.
All the real savings are going to be at the management level. Each employee has at least 2 managers doing the work of 1.
You are totally mistaken. Zero effort has been made to redistribute the work U.G. currently does. I'm not sure what would happen in the event U.G. actually does strike, but it would not be good. The way each company does business is completely different, and a seemless transition is still years away. Enbridge will probably bend the knee for now.
Enbridge is not going to make a special pension and benefit plan for 5% of its employees! They aren’t going to give union employees a better plan than management! Just be thankful you still have a job and most of you are overpaid. Especially the contact centre reps. Last I heard they make well over $36/hour to answer calls! Striking will only lose you weeks of pay and you won’t win! Any thoughts? Any contact centre employees on here with thoughts?
