Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

They keep doing the same thing

I keep wondering why is it that this company keeps believing that laying off experienced employees will solve problems that were created by inadequate upper management? Has this ever worked in the many previous attempts they've tried it? Nope. And yet they keep doing it.

That's Devon logic for you, ladies and gentleman.

You must remember that the exec’s only care about making an extra million. They don’t care about long term performance, or the going concern of the company. When you can see it from their perspective, then of course you lay-off the higher cost widgets and replace them with lower cost widgets. And that’s what the people who actually get things done are: widgets. Most MBA-type exec’s in energy companies don’t have a clue about what gets done in the trenches. All they know is widgets cost too much.

Dave is following the Kerr McGee school of management. I know what is coming, but you wouldn't believe me. Here is a hint...what happens when the original founders move on and you are left in charge with shareholders demanding a return on investment?

Big hint...LC.

I think most are missing the fact that Devon has been captured by activist investors. Doing the right thing for the business and employees has taken a backseat to making Elliott Management happy.

I would suggest that you don’t work your tail off too hard and not to make any huge sacrifices because things may be great today and tomorrow you’ll be over the threshold and you’ll be gone. Devon has no loyalty to anyone not even to someone who’s worked hard for them. Devon s---s!!

"put time in to a company that is not going to lay you off"

What company would that be? So Devon hired you at age 48 and you were there until 62. Not too bad. Are they screwing you out of a retirement?

I worked for Devon for 14 years and had all good e- val every year yet at 62 they lay me off to save money my advice to younger folks is to put time in to a company that is not going to lay you off when they say that you can make a career at Devon . makes you wonder why you would want to try to work so hard getting to the top of your pay grade only to let go to save money from poor management!!!!!!!
