Layoffs are happening in Austin at NXP Oak Hill. I know a maintenance tech that worked there for over 20 years and they can laid off the other day.
Has anybody else hear anything more about layoffs that have happened yesterday? Do we know if it was just a few people or something more substantial?
In my opinion they will close all these old fabs soon. Whats the point if you can't fab chips for the latest industry products?
in Asia, ATKL particular, we've ~30 ppl cut earlier this year just in one department.
I work at the OHT Fab, they just had a RIF, but it was a days sup and a maintenance tech (front half) and a few on the back half. Not many at all from the Fab.
Heard they cut some device engineers too

I know the Chandler plant has been hit with around 70 layoffs from manufacturing so far in 2019.
Some 20 of those were told to take a hike or go work with a tool maintenance contractor. Inventory to work with appears to have dropped more than 40% and starts are dismal. Tools are shut down, PM's are postponed.
What is going on? When upper MGT is questioned, the answer is "no one knows". Don't forget that all Chandler MFG is taking a mandatory PTO week in March. Moral continues to sink and you can forget about the open door policy or you'll be on the next list. Is the automotive sector in such trouble that the microprocessor line is virtually frozen? Something is going on upstairs while Clemmer and staff reap monetary rewards that make the previous Freescale fleecing with Michel Mayer look like a coin drop. Sale talks? Plant closing?
Based on @VT9O5t4-1Fwdn and assuming N has 30K employees worldwide, SG&A to be reduced from 10% to 7% within 3 years, means, each year 1% of people (300 heads) to be chopped off globally. This could mean maybe 40-50 heads in ATX. If these assumptions were correct, we must hear cuts everywhere this year.
