Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

This page makes me laugh

As a former employee and now union member for the IBEW its sad to see whats going on. I left a year or more ago when the company was sold and i saw what was happening. This page has so many different views on whats right and whats wrong. Everyone’s complaining about what the union can and cant do. Why dont you all stop fighting with one another and actually look into the company for yourself. The changes are progressing and shops are changing. If you want to be part of a union inform yourself if you dont thats fine too. All you guys do is argue and get nowhere. If supervisors are on here trying to sway opinions so be it. No one can get you facts or proof besides yourself so educate yourself and see the progression of the company. Remember where it started and the path its been taking. No one has a job forever. As the future progresses leas boxes are going out on installs. More people are streaming and companies are trying to find new ways to provide internet. Does the cable industry even last another 20-30 years? The younger generations are even more interested with streaming netflix, youtube, and video games. If another company provide new ways provide internet its going to get rough. All im saying is make your own choices for whats right for you and your familes. I hate watching my friends day in and out be miserable.

Y3D8uVw-1zyp, if I were you, I’d vote no. It s---s slackers slide now, and they’ll slide with the union. But with the union they could actually have seniority on you, just ask our old buddy who went to OSP in Oakland how seniority works out. I personally hope management has had their eyes opened, and see some issues need changing. And if they don’t, we can see exactly what Hawthorn gets, and petition for a new vote in a year. Let’s not just jump into some thing that will be a lot harder to jump out of.

the sad part is, this poster is right. The sad part is, there's no way to educate yourself what so ever. The depot's have changed a full 180 in the last year. There's nobody to communicate with and there's no help. There's no longer an HR in the building to go to for information. Everything is an email. There are guys in my depot that have been there for 15 years plus that have been put on actions because the numbers aren't right. They don't take the daily provisioning outages, the unrealistic routing into account. Oh we had a provisioning outage every sunday/monday on something for the last couple months. Hey that doesn't matter though because "some guys seem to get their numbers". The depot is dog eat dog and sups are allowed to run them as they see fit. Every depot is different.

everyone is crying union and it seems like my depot is next. Honestly, I am the minority. As a tp performer in my depot for the last 5+ years, the only thing the union will do for me is possibly job protection. Which is ideal in y case. Guys are complaining of routes, vacation days etc. Everyone in my depot I believe is pushing union for the wrong reasons. The sad part is for someone like myself that busts my a-- for my 5% increases will be lowered to 2.5-3%, getting the same money that the slackers are getting. I believe the union will provide job protection. I also believe that the union will provide a curtain for the guys just getting by to hide behind.
