Question on Evalutions

Does anyone know if someone can get a Needs Improvement without a prior coaching. I had seen something about that a manager has to have coached you before eating you as “Needs Improvement” on an eval. Does this still happen?

As an Assistant, if someone had been talk to numerous times and had continuous sit down discussing for improvement and advancement had not occurred, it could easily be warranted.

Leadership will do whatever they want. At WMT, you have to fight for everything. Therefore, if your leadership abuse their power, you must be willing to fight back. Gather evidence and file an Ethics Complaint. When they retaliate, which they will, file an EEOC complaint. If you are unwilling to stand up for yourself, no one else will. It is that simple. Quit whining all the time, and be a man. Quit being a sniveling coward.

I asked our MHRM and was told there is no policy. It’s “Best Practices”. But I do have the policy in print. Everyone says to fight it but I’m feeling like it’s a lost cause.

My manager gave me a needs improvement for OSCA. I’ve been with Walmart 15yrs and always had exceed on my evaluation. My OSCA is always in the high 90’s. The total store is always under their score level. I told him he can’t base me for the total store unless the whole store got it. Well found out only his ppl got it so went to store manager about this and he said that that is not part of my eval and he did it on floor and told me I had to sign it and I couldn’t leave comments!!!! Still hasn’t changed my eval yet. Thinking about open door this.

Yes, I got a needs improvement. 25 year associate, never had a coaching for anything. Never told me anything all year about my performance. Surprise, eval time and they give me a needs improvement. WHAT IN THE WORLD? We were told you can open door it but nothing will change. I think we need to get together as ASSOCIATES and call the CEO. This is so unfair. Oh yes, they want to get rid of long term associates. This is their way of doing it. They create lies about associates just so they don't have to give a raise. Sad, sad sad. My intelligence was insulted.

As an assistant it happened more than once. Never as an hourly. And when I was an assistant I never did my associates unless they had coachings.

Apparently you can get needs improvement on everything but one thing and not ever been coached in almost 25 years of service.

I've not heard so much as anything let alone a coaching in 20 years! But got a Needs Improvement with no raise. Heard that the ASM over me had a bad eval too so employees under them are rated lower and that it's store consensus. If an ASM has a good or above average eval, employees under her can be rated higher overall. If true, I'm going to MM or higher. This doesn't fly!

@ m7de, if by 'addressing the issue' you mean a 'buddy chat', as they like to call it, trust me: that's a low-cal, sugar-free coaching. Seen it happen. Thbey'll scoop enough sh!t together til they have a weapon to throw at you.

It is no longer required to have a coaching to get a Needs Improvement eval, but they need to have addressed the issue before the evaluation.

We had three DM's get 'Needs Improvement" on their evals and none of them had coachings.

Well, one thing for sure, you should most definitely open door any manager that eats an associate. That's way beyond the normal range of coaching. :) Sorry, I couldn't help myself.

Just understand, a salaried manager can do to you pretty much what ever they want, They'll invent policy on the spot, and if they're backed high enough, you'll get no where trying to fight them. ---This is part of why I enjoy stories of work place violence against managers :)
