Thread regarding SAP layoffs

Any way to foresee your layoff?

Does anyone have any experiences regarding what symptoms are present from which one can foresee that that he/she is in line to be cut, of course if such a thing is possible to predict at all?

I predicted this a while ago and have been preparing financially. There were some decisions that didn't make sense unless you were going to do a major draw down. In my area age doesn't seem to be a factor. The youngest person let go was 24 in her first corporate job and the oldest was in her 60's. I am in my 40's. Watching the mad musical chairs scramble for seats is sad. I feel like they are holding back reqs until the separation dates all pass.

If u happened to work remotely and your direct manager is cancelling the wkly or biweekly call with you consecutively for multiple weeks and months, then there is reason to be worrying sometimes...

Yes there is a way, if you are in late 40s and making a good salary you are at risk. Performance does not matter. Experience Matters is hogwash!

This is an excellent question. First, pay attention to the quarterly or semiannual all hands calls in your organizational area. Your particular group’s contribution - directly or indirectly - to revenue will be the first sign. If you are part of a low-growth or no-growth area, you will want to sharpen your skills and consider a lateral move into a more profitable sector. Second, make the extra effort to understand what your unit’s long term strategic objectives are and that you have the skills that can help bring you there. We all need an educational tune-up from time to time.

Stay positive and don’t despair. This forum is an excellent platform for those affected to vent, but it is not healthy or productive to dwell on these negative emotions (anger, fear, etc). You can do this.

Does your day to day work involve real software with important customers or the latest buzzwords with no customers? If it’s the former, you should be worried about being laid off. If it’s the latter, you’re safe (for now). :-)
