Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

"Right Size my @SS"

This so called "right sizing" is nothing more than the death of outside sales people.

This is what companies do to re-align their business model.

What will be left of SBA will be telemarketers. Sycamore DOES NOT see the value with outside sales people. They will continue to eliminate these positions because they are set up for failure.

Just imagine having a long term relationship with a customer and overnight, they have no relationship with you because your book of business has been flipped upside down. This pisses customer off. Not only is SBA not competitive, they have decided that relationships in business don't matter. Guess what @-holes, they do!

The long term goal is to model after Amazon and Staples is way to late to the party.

Good luck selling this c-ap Sycamore.

Agreed. Outside sales people are expensive.

The furniture division is even more overhead laden.

Interior Designers ($55k-90k/ yr position)

Hundreds of Order management associates

Project Manager ($65-102k/yr position)

Regional design mangers and regional PM managers ($80-125k/yr position

Project furniture margins are in the low 20s

Transactional margins are in the mid 30s

Transactional requires nothing more than click and choose online it point and order from a catalog

No Designer, No order management specialist, no PRoject Manager, and really no Furnops needed.

Project Furniture is dying a slow painful death. 18 months and it will be all but history.
