Thread regarding Altice USA (Cablevision) layoffs

MAKE ALTICE GREAT AGAIN!!!!!

Altice has never been better! We are now offering YUGE amounts of tools and uniforms to our dedicated employees. We are also starting to offer the GREATEST and BEST overtime to our most loyal workers. Your very friendly supervisor will be on hand explain the purely coincidental timing of all this generosity and goodwill.

MAKE ALTICE GREAT AGAIN!

Don’t believe the fake news media ! The contractors are not going to replace you, even though they are cheaper for us in everyway . I give you MY WORD that you will all have jobs for as long as you want. Since Altice has never taken any money/time/benefits from LABOR you can trust us. You do not need anything in writing . The only guarantee you need is MY WORD!

MAKE ALTICE GREAT AGAIN!

In the coming year there will be AMAZING opportunities to move around to different positions without a title change or pay increase. We do this because we care about your finances. We keep you in a lower tax bracket to help you SAVE money! Unlike the UNION who wants to charge you HUNDREDS of PERCENTS!!!

MAKE ALTICE GREAT AGAIN!

Your arguments make no sense. I dont pay management, they do. You flat out said there is no protection and they freely admit they cannot guarantee anything. So what's the point? I have an attorney I dont need theirs. You will pay more in dues then you would to an attorney if you ever did need one. You must be living at home with no family or responsibilities if you want to throw away your money, but not me! Again, not pro company here and I do believe this ship is sinking and fast, But you can do nothing about it neither can a union. They paid 17 billion its theirs to do with as they please. And that includes running this place into the dirt Sad but true fact Sorry to say

Nothing is ever guaranteed until its in writing. And if you went to a union meeting they would tell you that. The company wouldn't tell you that because they dont want to give you anything written in stone. They want total power and the ability to give you what THEY feel is good for you and most importantly for management and the controlling shareholders of the company.

There is soo much emphasis on dues. Put it this way...you pay dues for management on your behalf (union) just as the company pays for management on their behalf ( supervisors, directors, vp, cfo, ceo, hr) in the form of millions of dollars annually. And all of them have the company's back first and foremost of yours. You pay 2% of your pay for lawyers and agents to have your back.

The issue is, no union can protect your job, with the exception of something done illegally. Even then they just use an attorney. Please show me exactly how a union can guarantee job protection.

Just for the record before you go jumping all 9ver me with the name calling, I dont like what's going on here anymore then you do but I see no proof of these claims. I need iron clad proof before I'd give one cent of my money to any union

Bingo. The smart would get a union in just for that. So many of these guys think they have such an impact on making the company great and that they would never lose their job cause of how good they are. This is the furthest thing from the truth. Your a number and that’s it. The company is running fine without all the techs that left and many of them were very good at what they did. If everyone left tomorrow the company would figure out a way to make the place run. Step up and protect yourself.

Well it looks like the new brklyn contract has another 4 year layoff Clause . That alone is worth the dues to me

We just started negotiations with Altice. We have one tech from each depot going with union to do negotiations. Hopefully we can have a contract soon. Will keep you posted.

Hey Freeport tech, what did you get for being union? Is there a guarantee of job security written into the contract? Any sick or personal time returned? Sincerely thankful for your informed commentary on the situation. A “on the fence” tech in westchester.

wish you LI guys nothing but the best.

it's sad that these techs over here in the Bronx shop still can't see the light.

Yes. I & my fellow union coworkers in Freeport & Bethpage are all very, very happy. Happy that we all made the right decision. Yes, they are currently recruiting all depots in Suffolk county. Nassau is just two depots (Freeport/Bethpage). I believe there are four or five depots in Suffolk county. We hope to have them all be IBEW 1049 members soon.

"Now it's "what if Dolan didn't freeze it?" seriously.....worry about what Altice is doing now that they own the company...."

Sorry that you were unable to understand my overall point. Never mind.

I've always been concerned with what Altice is doing "now that they own the company."

Most of you will dismiss anything relating to Dolan, that's fine, however, a major issue is that a lot of people choose not to pay attention to history which usually results in them being destined to repeat it.

If you're interested in learning a little bit about Altice history, you can refer to this post from a year ago.

@ Leia Organa

Now it's "what if Dolan didn't freeze it?" seriously.....worry about what Altice is doing now that they own the company. Let me guess, Dolan was in Cahoots with Drahi like Trump was with the Russian's and Alice actually planted the seed of Dolan freezing the Cash Balance Plan.

"our cash balance plan was frozen before Altice."

That is absolutely correct, but riddle me this Batman.....

Don't you think it benefits them not being obligated to contribute to it?

If Dolan had not froze it, don't you think Altice would've?

"Ill advised?

I disagree.

It's okay to inject some humor into the conversation, especially now, during these tumultuous times here at Altice.

It's definitely ill advised for management to think they can try and stop Hawthorne from voting YES in a few weeks. Probably better off to do what they did in Bethpage/Freeport.

I am neither for or against a union, However this is an ill-advised post

(Not the responses, the original post)

Adding political stupidity just makes it all the worse. If you wanted to communicate something, why not go the mature/grown up route?

BTW Some of these replies would make good posts on their own.

I am all for a union and currently in a union , but i don’t think a union is going to help. Altice isn’t going to give anything worth while in a contract because there are so few of you of you now , even if you were to strike they can easily handle the work load with contractors. It’s sad , but that’s what happened with spectrum. Either way , good luck boys.

"So if Hawthorne votes yes, what depots are left as non-union shops?"

NON-UNION

  • CT (all depots)

  • HV (Wappinger Falls)

  • NYC (Bronx)

  • LI (everywhere except Bethpage & Freeport)

  • NJ (everywhere except Oakland, Newark, Lodi)

"And does being non-union benefit or hurt them?"

of course it benefits them by maintaining 100% control over the term & conditions of your employment.

being able to unjustly fire you for getting into an accident, being able to replace you with contractors, being able to decrease your sick days, freezing your cash balance plan all benefits them.

It funny because CC's email sounded just like that so it must be true! It brought a year to my eye reading his encouraging words. He really is looking out for our best interest. Hahaha we'll see March 6th when we vote yes! Keep the fire burning my friends. They have no idea what they are up against.

This is strikingly similar to the email CC sent to Hawthorne techs.

They must be all working off the Fat Barry template.

oh by the way, thanks for the new vests.
