Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Job shaming

I find it very sad that anyone would say people who work at walmart are not smart enough to work a real job! I've worked since I was out of high school. Almost 30 yrs for walmart. It was a wonderful company to work for when I started. Only the last 8 to 10 yrs has it become not so pleasant to work for. But I s--- it up and get the job done. I've busted my a**. I've been able to support myself and my family (albeit not lavishly) on a walmart salary. I own my home and drive a newish car as does my husband. I'm not a manager, (won't go there!) I find it very insulting that anyone would shame someone for working! I'm an honest, hard working woman that has earned my $19 hr. I also get almost 7 weeks vacation. Why would I walk away from that. People need to stop shaming others for working here or anywhere for that matter. A job is a job and it pays the bills. Grow up people!! Stop shaming others!!!

WMT is a political action committee. All WMT management cares about is identity politics, diversity & inclusion, and equality of results. That's it. The best way to survive in this environment is to do an "Elizabeth Warren" - claim you are a member of some minority group. Then add in a female gender or trans-s-xual gender, and you now have job security. Hell, as a man, I'd be willing to wear a dress and high heels in order to keep my job - I would be a really ugly woman. I then would tell people that I am transitioning, taking estrogen, and would ask people to stop making fun of my appearance. Then, I would file an ethics complaint for descrimination, citing all of the people making fun of me - all nasty micro-aggressions. I would have a job for life.

Well I have been at Walmart many years. Can't seem to go anywhere and now afraid to transfer and move up. It's scary to move and be afraid of layoffs. A person should not have to worry about that and that's why I have been thinking of moving on. It's sad to be scared to move within the company and be afraid that you will lose your job. I am thankful for my job and being able to work for the company many years but it's ashamed to have to worry if you will have a job tomorrow. I have gotten to the point that I am not sure what to do anymore as it seems as I stopped growing and afraid to move within the company!!

We will go almost full robotic within 5 years or less. We need technology not associates. Amazon scan and go or whatever it’s called, have you seen that? Enter store, scan smartphone, pick out everything you want and walk out. That’s the future, very few associates to run a building, robots scan shelves and restock. Robots clean the concrete floors, no need for cashiers every again. 3 rd party for everything else, can you see it now? Wal\Tron

walmart seems to be winning in 2019 but not there Associates. No wonder with all they have stolen from there Associates putting some of them on welfare lines, and food pantries. And if they can afford it buying clothes at Good Will. Paste this link is your URL take a look at who is really winning. Not all relaters are losing no excuses for walmart the slave master employer cracking the whip hard on there associates. They have caused quite a few relaters to close. But they are not the losers in 2019.

Big-box chains

Walmart and Target both stood out as winners in retail in 2018, as these two companies continue to pour money into their businesses to keep pace with Amazon

walmart's associates are surely not winning

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/12/31/here-are-some-of-the-winners-in-retail-heading-into-2019-like-walmart.html

The only smart people now at walmart are the ones that have found a real job.I have worked for them for over 20 years in good times and now in bad.Associates are in dire straights now, getting hours cut losing benefits with all the new changes designed to take away just about every benefit.Full time going from 40 to 20 or less hours. Some in the The walmartone.com forum tell how it relay is.Cant make house payments or afford cars losing the roof over there heads. When you have lost the pillow to lay your head on you have lost something walmart. It appears to me they are down sizing if you believe walmart as it is now is a good employer, you are indeed traveling with a caravan of fools.I beg you to don't invest your time and life working for the hardship employer and loose everything struggling trying to stay out of the poor house or end up on welfare like many have.I have recently retired with nothing to show for the years I worked there and now I get depressed just seeing a store thinking of the hell they are putting there associates through. The turnover rate is very high parades of new hires in and out before they loose everything but there names. No holiday pay and worse with the new attendance policy they count you 2 points equal to 2 days of a 5 point call out system that just came into effect this month. for calling out on so called key event days.It was 8 points before and no extra points for call out.If you are 9 minutes late coming or going it's a half point, equal to a half day 2 late count a hole day.I hear some are already almost maxed out there points. They have changed our sick pay now only A member of your family can use it not you what the f--- how about me.Things have really got bizarre. And much more Ill be back hear somewhere reading and commenting on replies. Now ill give my fingers a rest

I just read an article in this morning's associated press national news that states '56% of all U.S. retailers are 'just trying to survive' '. That's a scary figure. I attribute this slowly growing trend back to the stock market collapse of 2008. Once we pulled out of that, people never looked at their shopping habits the same way again. And that it's exactly the very habitual nature of mass frivolous spending that keeps the economy thriving, but individual consumers don't think that way; they're just scared and trying to save every penny they can. Which, in turn, feeds the economic recession.

What’s odd to me is that people who post how much they hated working at WM in the past still hang around a WM thread. Move on already...

@Xw5WIR0-mhm - It's great to see an old post of mine crop up in a new thread. Hopefully I can make a difference.

I still agree that the best days of Walmart are in the past but the future can be better if we get leaders that know retail and how to SERVE the customer vs. serving their personal bank account.

$19./hr? Hoo boy, sure hope you're close to retirement. There is no way that's sustainable in retail----especially at that greed farm

I don't know that it is a personal shaming of people who work for Walmart so much as a massive hate for the employer itself. I've never walked into a Walmart and never will - they represent all that is wrong and, yeah, even evil - when it comes to their role and place in society. Can't really blame the employees for that, however.

....Sadly Walmart was once a great place to work with tremendous career possibilities. However, once LS took the helm as the leader, it has gone down hill ever since. It used to be a great TEAM environment where if you worked hard, there were opportunities to grow yourself and support your family....but now not so much.....

it is everyone for themselves with no concern for what keeps them in business - the Associates in the stores and warehouses - They are the ones that kept this company afloat. I would like to see a robot care for and show empathy to a customer, see a self checkout make a kid or elderly person smile, with all the technology being put into place I wonder who is going to be there to show a positive outlook to someone (customer or associate) that is having a rough day.

Yes the Old days when you could have a career at Walmart are over......but they don't have to be if the right people were in charge.
