Benefits are part of our compensation. We are lucky to have benefits, but no more “lucky” than we are to get paid - we work in exchange for those things. The constant repositioning of this topic to make it sound like benefits are a favour from our ol’ Uncle Enbridge is annoying. Also annoying - Corporate never admitted it was a worse plan than what Spectra had. Never. I forget their exact key messages now, but they kept emphasizing that some elements were different than what Spectra had but it sort of evened out when you looked at compensation overall. Around the same time the new plan was being communicated, we basically had our pay reduced with merit less than inflation, found out we had to work an extra half an hour a day without any extra pay, lost our ESP stock match, and some people were quite mad about the pension changes, so the “you need to look at the bigger picture” message really p-ss-d people with basic math skills off, including me. Yes, Spectra had an amazing plan and yes, the Enbridge plan is still good compared to many other employers. But don’t gaslight me! Our compensation was reduced plain and simple lol
Couldn't agree more with @XqYvFaD-5nuv, It's sad how many people forget this.
