Thread regarding Enbridge Inc. layoffs

I can ultimately live with the changes Enbridge made to our benefits, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to complain

Preach. If you have a bad meal at a restaurant, would you think to yourself, “At least I don’t live in third world country where I might not know where my next meal is coming from”? Nope. You’d send that sh-- back.

I can ultimately live with the changes Enbridge made to our benefits, but I don’t think it’s unreasonable to complain when I’m exchanging my time for compensation and my compensation is reduced without any chances to my accountabilities. Another angle of this nobody talks about - when we merged, they moved us Spectra people into their new pay structure but never addressed pay disparities between Enbridge people and Spectra people doing the exact same jobs. I am definitely under the impression that there are Spectra people making less than the Enbridge people, at least in my BU. I think that because when we were mapped to the new pay structure, I heard from lots of people who were below or at the extreme bottom of their new pay range. Perhaps Spectra wages were lower because we had way better benefits and the stock match? That would be reasonable. But again, this issue keeps repositioned to, “at least you have benefits at all”.

Kudos @XqYvFaD-5ixa . You gave a precise comment on the situation

Did Spectra employees have a pension plan prior to the merger?

Did these cuts to benefits being discussed on this board occur in Canada?

This is a tricky topic. I would suggest the right question to ask is, “Do I feel adequately compensated compared to what I could command if I went looking for a job elsewhere?”

That’s the most useful calculation. Trying to keep compensation above historical highs has bankrupted many a company.

There are some people at EGD who are also at the low end or below their range with the new bands. It's not just legacy Spectra. But, wow. Spectra employees got 10% of their wage in stocks? Was that in addition to your bonus? That's crazy.

Literally with the new stock plan its only 2.5% I found recently. Spectra people people got 10% of wage.

Now only 5% but 2.5% of that goes to your benefits amount. So 7.5% loss !

Then my pay dropped by nearly $3.00 per hour to work 40 hrs for same pay I got at 37.5

Don't forget the EHC/Dental costs went up by over 40% from our old provider to new provider. After we were told new Enbridge benefits were to be cheaper.

Now go to get d--gs or dentist and pay 10% of the bill too.

Many also lost out who got overtime pay. Was OT X2 are now at X1.5 .

Add it up people loss of 20% from 2018.
