Walmart introduces bonuses for good attendance

Interesting info in this article. These bonuses are not bad for the ones that don’t call in sick every time we don’t feel well. For the ones that try to avoid work this way, don't think even money can be much of a motivation.

Because a paycheck every 2 weeks is never enough.

What bonuses?? Even if this is true I guarantee itll be nothing worthwhile. It'll be like our incentive at the DC, oh boy if I work really hard we might get a 15 cent incentive, yea thats some incentive alright...to do as little as possible for this company...

WalMart had a policy for people that called out all the time. It was a point system. That did not work because management approved the points. When questioned about the points being approved I was told that most would be fired on third shift if the points were given and a lot on second shift . Also a lot of cashiers would also be fired. It was a give or take system. The associates took advantage of this and management approved the points.

Protected PTO can be used to “call in sick” and thus will not effect the My Share bonus.

It’s a fair system that’s overdue.

In my market they're rolling out an incentive plan like that based on, if you make 3 mos w no sick calls you get a vis a card loaded with purchase points you can use in your store. 1 year/no call offs = $500 worth!

What article?

Regardless, if true, this will encourage people to come to work sick thereby making their coworkers and customers sick. Do some people call in sick at the first sign of a sniffle? Of course. On the flip side, do people feel obligated to come to work with something serious like the flu? Again, of course. Do you have people that abuse sicks policies. Once again, of course.

WM needs to come up with a work environment that encourage their associates to take sick time without fear of retribution and also have a system of punishments for the abusers. WM seems to run with the bare minimum of associates so that if someone called it, it wouldn't be noticed by the customers anyway.

As an aside, I worked with a person that wanted a day of in the spring/early summer. She was hourly. The company refused it. She called in sick. She attended the county fair and got her picture on the front page of the local newspaper. You guessed it. She was fired.
