Thread regarding Staples Inc. layoffs

The Best Things About Staples

It has shown us all the power of Amazon and the witness we all see as Staples continues to die.

Retail and SBA simply can not compete.

"if there was no misrepresentation, why have so many employees been surprised, Chum?"

Because they either weren't listening, only heard what they wanted to hear, or are dumb as dirt.

What a laugh. Buy into the company. Pms Sup here. Two years top 10%. over 5 years in company. I got a 12 cent raise to a hair over $12.00 an hour.

My work ethic demands full effort at all times but being screwed, having demands

without resourse, silly little bonuses, and minite by minite pressure really define the real experience here. Your building up a company who offers people 8 hrs a week at minimum wage. So from your stand, Success , even though its built on really really bad abuse of people ( and customers), is on the way. I dont by it. Its not the future. Our store can't hire a decent employee. The younger generation is aware of concientious capitalism and saying screw this. I dont buy it. It's the staples way though, ignore the truth. Example, I need this and this and this done

on top of regular job. But you cant have more hour to do it. Furthermore, im going to update you 3 times a day on your progress.

Long lines, the original AT & T, was so successful they split them up. A top executive there told me their sucsess was due to the way they treated their employees and vendors. Staples treats up bad. It will destroy them. Not one single person in my store gives a sh-- about staples or its health. they just plug along. Many wish we would go out of business and make it easy. my copy center staff could go 1/4 down to wally world and get 3 dollars an hour more as a cashier. Imagine that. So I call b---s---

"oops, we made a mistake" was old 20 years ago.

Hmmm i recall SP addressing an audience in Framingham a week or so after the deal, stating repeatedly that it was"business as usual" & " nothing changes" & "everyone gets paid on Friday". Of course about a week later most of the IT professionals in that audience were summoned again to be given their walking papers or invited to cannibalize their co-workers if they wanted to stay and be outsourced.

With the SP acquisition it was clearly stated that there was to be right sizing. There has been no misrepresentation.

We're doing just fine, Chum.

first it was the Office Depot and we listened, and then it was the new e-commerce initiative and we listened, and then you promised no men overboard, but then people walked the plank. And then the Sycamore buyout was our salvation but then more men overboard, and .... we stopped listening to "The Big Picture". Sorry, chum, it's just not gonna fly. Amazon IS eating your lunch and there WILL be a lot more men overboard and the survivors won't get much for their risk.

Your response really does speak to how shallow your ability to see the big picture is.

Nonsense, head in the sand attitude.

Amazon is doing $24Bn in broad-line business supplies in the US, growing at 20%pa c/w Staples $16Bn and declining at 5%+

Staples needs to invest in the growing (+2-4%pa) broad-line business supplies: IT, furniture & ergonomics, FM hygiene & safety, packaging, food service & med supplies. Moreover MCommerce tools are weak v Amazon.

Where is the evidence Staples is right sizing for a growing market?

I'm not sure what numbers you're seeing but Amazon is NOT an issue. They, among other are competitors. If you can't change and adapt to capture the addressable market then you're in the wrong job.

Staples is doing just fine. Better than ever. I think it's interesting that a lot of people look at layoffs and right-sizing the company and changes as a negative. These things should have been happening all along. They are not a sign of weakness, they are a sign of strength. And they're also a sign of running a business the right way.

Companies that don't right size, don't change and don't run profitable go the way of Sears, Lechemere, Caldor, Circuit City, Radio Shack and many more. The company is not toxic, the plan is not toxic, the future is not toxic, you and all of the trolls that don't believe and don't put your best foot forward are the toxicity. Do everyone a favor and kindly resign. There are many people that are qualified to do what you do no matter what it is. If you're here just to collect a paycheck and don't buy into the future of the organization then you have no place in the organization.

If you are not looking to win and can only look at the past then you are not looking at the future and will only fail. Good luck.
