500 layoffs in Georgia

You can believe me or not but here is the truth - there are major layoffs in Georgia. I was told that my position is being eliminated (I am a Registered Nurse) - I heard that 500 others will be eliminated, most of them nurses. People are in shock, I certainly am. Job opportunities are scarce right now and this is really bad. Doctors that we work with are not affected directly, but they will have to manage without so many nurses I am not even sure that's possible. When things are tallied up, the patient will be the one who suffers the most. All the best to all of you.

They fired you so they could hire foreign nurses on the OPT F-1 Student visa. OPT pays zero FICA and some even work up to 150 days for free. Better follow @amworkco on twitter.

I also heard there will be other layoffs in May. But with us having a union, which the union didn’t do a very good job as I’m reading comments and Seniority definitely wasn’t a factor in the way people were laid off. I think I’m going to call the national Labor relations Board and inquire if there’s anything that we can do about UFCW local 1996.

Gwinnett did have lay-offs. I was one, as of 1/30/19, and there were several others not sure of total.

Not all departments had cuts. Gwinnett and TP ACC didn't lose anyone. Also no one knows what criteria is used to determine who gets layed off. It is NOT determined by seniority.

Sad that management gets to choose who they want to keep. They say by seniority, but how is it that a nurse that's been there 4 years gets to keep her job, but a nurse that's been there 10 years, she gets her severance package? And they both have the same title..How is the union not involved in this decision? what were we paying you for?

The entire GA Region has made cuts across the board on yesterday. They have us 30 days of pay which are only 2 paychecks and put on a 2 year recall list.

Yes, Colorado Health Plan management also got their bonuses paid out at max this year too. This after laying off 200 people willy nilly. Why hasn't the Georgia debacle hit the news there yet? They must have it under real tight wraps. Am hearing about it through the KP grapevine here though.

I was one of the displaced today as well. I am an RN as well and my boss walked me into the office and I saw HR and found out my job was eliminated.

All Georgia locations. Every department must make cuts, no department will keep all employees/nurses.
