I look at the hirings of young employees as a part of a bigger plan to make the company look more attractive if it becomes the object of acquisition. I think they are going to demand from the older long-time employees to train the new ones and once they are able to perform their jobs there will be a wave of layoffs where the older workers will be targeted. The company saves costs, improves its financial standings and gets rid of the ones with bigger salaries. Maybe I’m just stating the obvious but the company wasn't upfront about this so I still consider this potential move to be sneaky.

I'm 27 and I had to train several people in the phillipines. If I didn't...I would have not gotten severance. Teradata is turning into Teratoilet.
OK, tell me what "better and new skill" replaces SQL on open source?
Drag and drop? Please tell me which of the open source tools optimize the SQL properly for any of the major DBMS' (Oracle, DB2, Teradata)
And please tell me what open source tool can implement things like PPI and know when to use the different type of session working tables needed for ELT jobs.

You are a dreamer. This company don’t need to train people on DB and SQL.
New people bring better and new skill on open source.
