Thread regarding General Electric Co. layoffs

Should I stay or should I go? Continue to listen to lies that I will have a job tomorrow!

I would leave! I do not know why am I staying here thinking it will turn around. Believing the words from the company and the union of false hope and dreams. The stress of this place is not worth the t rate weekly payment anymore. The unknown if I will have a job tomorrow. Time to consider other options I do believe it’s time.

It's a lot easier to find a job the day before you're laid off.

I won't leave until I'm positive that I'm getting everything that I can possibly take with me. Why should I leave anything behind? It's a better deal to wait and laid off than to quit the day before. I don't care who suffers because of it. It's not like anybody considers me while they are looking out for themselves. I've earned it, I deserve it!!

Maybe if you actually worked to get a PAYCHECK, instead of sitting on your a@@ waiting for your "weekly payment" the company would be better off. Otherwise they'll be better off with you gone!

Go get another job then if the stress is killing you. Go School up . Go part time somewhere else. Do something. Go to a corner and cry dumb a$$. GET in line behind the ENRON losers.

Comparing the pay for a fast food restaurant to another segment is not really appropriate. Though I will say I worked for the McDonald's corporation in the '80s and the pay and benefits were absolutely top notch then... I had a company vehicle(new Ford Taurus every two years including fuel allowance), profit sharing and we could buy stock at a significant discount, plus a 401K program with matching. Every 10 years you received a "sabbatical" of 6 months off with full pay plus I am probably forgetting more than a few things... Like free food and smelling like grease and pickles every day!

With GE on your resume and ANY supervisory experience, I would be looking at management development programs at big box stores like Home Depot, Wal-Mart or your local grocery store. Depending on the area, managers there are making 100K with incentives and bonuses. It might take a couple of years, but I think anyone with some smarts and a strong work ethic will get there. These places are looking for people with some longevity, so act like you want to stay on and you have a good chance. Also, don't discount light manufacturing. GE experience still carries weight there. Jobs in my area for a cell leader are starting at 60K and this is not SoCal. But that's just my opinion based on experience in the market.

But if you are thinking about leaving... GO. The economy is probably at(or past) its peak now, so establish yourself somewhere else before a downturn.

If you're posting for sympathy look elsewhere, the only person that cares about this is the one holding the job you'll save. So good bye and good riddance.

Stay. Don't leave unless you have to. For working class people, you can't do any better pay wise. I just retired after many years and thought I was getting done wrong by making only 80K my last year because some Managers for making over 100k per year. I was in Bojangles earlier in the week and noticed they had a Regional Manager job available with a salary of 57k and a shift leader job for 16.50 per hour along with a regular worker job for $9.50 per hour. Lets be honest, its hard to beat a GE paycheck even with the troubles going on. Maybe it will all get worked out. Ahhh...time for another cup of coffee. Thank you GE for giving me a good income all of these years.

Now let the jealous and bad comments start rolling in.
