Watch out... February 15... chaos.
Given how f@cked up this country is and the divide amoung people and their political beliefs is now becoming so dangerous, I am retiring if I get laid off and moving to a remote area where I can avoid people at all costs.
If you don’t see what’s happening all around you, you are a sheep that deserves what’s coming.
Most of us cannot retire at 50 but need to continue to work until retirement age. Even if you are married or have a significant other many of us still need an income unless of course you were a top executive and/or are from a wealth family. Yes, I agree that many who are laid off might find employment but are earning substantially less.
people at STT are already retired. they do nothing and still collect paycheck, that's why the company is in such horrible condition.
but its over soon... no more free ride.
Most former friends of mine who worked at STT and are over 50yr. Some have new jobs but they are making 35% less, others are working 3 ,6, 9 month contract jobs for over 4 years.
Same here. Had a job in 5 weeks. I think if you have kept up your skills (and added new ones) and the job actually exists outside of SST, you can get a job after 50. A great deal of the job growth in the last year was in the 50+ group. This group recovered faster in the last downturn (not deluding myself but there are actual statistics on this). However, if you are 50+ and have been at SST for decades and are a generalist manager, it is going to be difficult. Those 1990's skills will get cut it.
