STT had and has many bright IT support people who have seen their jobs outsourced.
A lot of the computer systems and software are outdated , but the motto was "hey it still works why upgrade.
The IT support staff has no say in upgrading technology and software at STT.
This meant they would not be reimbursed the thousands of dollars for any IT courses they took, because STT does not use it.
Remeber these are the bright IT people who managed year after year to keep the old technology running, that is why STT kept most of them.
I talk to a couple of recruiters. A period of time at SST is not damaging but they told me the long-term SST employees earned too much and had too little skills to be easily placed in other companies.
I left SS in Dec with another job... more money and more responsibilities. Several people in my area found good jobs elsewhere in Boston throughout 2018. I think companies think people who work for SS and show career progression while there is a good thing because companies know you must want to do a good job to put up will all the s**t SSB throws at you.
No I just felt It was devil I know Versus devil I didn’t know. It’s hard to just up and leave no job is safe so I played it safe. We’ll see what happens I’m sure I’ll find a job I’m well educated many skills updated and tangible skills too. So laugh ridicule all you want I stayed I took a role I wanted very much and am supremely happy with it too. It’s s Shame these added lay offs are occurring. But I never had illusions of a fifteen twenty year career at STT
Why would you stay at state st if better companies were giving you offers?
Answer: because that was in your dreams...
No one would stay at state street if another offer came along, the writing has been on the wall for way too long... you’re either lazy or lying.
Not true at all. I actually interviewed and got offers at top investment banks stupid me didn’t jump ship though I thought the new role at STT was my dream job until this new announcenent S m h
State Street was always regarded as that company in Boston you went to when no one else would hire you. I’d be worried if I had more than 5 years of state street on your resume.
It wasn’t until I had 3 solid years at another company after I left STT that I stated to get interviews again. When STT was my main experience, no one wanted to interview me. And this was when the economy was good.
Well duh, lol.
State Street is not regarded as a good place to work. People pass on a resume with over 5 years at State Street. If that wasn’t the case, more people would have no problem leaving there for better opportunities. People stay there because no one else will hire them or until they get laid off.
