Thread regarding State Street Corp. layoffs

I wish we knew today

Honestly, I'd rather know I've been laid off and work from there than have to go through who knows how much longer of constant stressing and guessing. This is not the first time State Street did something like this and I'm certain it will not be the last. It's like they get some perverse sense of satisfaction from additionally torturing us.

Just tell us already!

Get this through your thick skulls...

Government doesn't give one f*ck about jobs, job loss or the private sector.

You're all getting a longer severance package if you think about it.... They tell you what they are doing, closing down offices in high cost areas, they give approximate number ~8,500 people to get laid off by end of 2019, probably thousands more than that number, so from now until you find a job or get cut, it's just a paycheck for showing up. Sure, work still needs to get done, but in reality, they know everyone is scurrying around now getting themselves ready to interview.

So whether you get your severance tomorrow or @ end of 2019, no one is really working that hard for STT, they're working hard to find another job... And coasting, collecting the last year of a real paycheck.

But be glad you know what is coming down the line for the majority if employees.

Better to get out now than waitto be cut, if someplace wants to hire you, go, otherwise you'll be competing with thousands and thousands of out of work former STT employees at end of year.

So MA governor all worried over federal employees and NA senator EW was worried over Wells Fargo

Employees a year ago. Yet their own constituents that pay taxes support the economy. Nothing. Disgraceful

Well I guess my parents and I have always wanted to move to warmer areas so they’ll sell their house I’ll sell mine for a loss and we’ll st least save on heating bills. See looking at half full. S. M. H.

Look at the bright side of things... They made sure everyone knows STT will be exiting out if the 'high cost areas', meaning Boston area, so people can at least start planning for a potential job move or to refrain from maybe trading up for a new home this year, or maybe even wait on buying a first home. Got to be grateful for at least them telling everyone they are planning a mass exodus out of Massachusetts and jobs are not safe. What would be worse us not knowing all this then taking on a huge mortgage or buying a new car and a week later losing your job.

I'd rather know so I can at least prepare to be unemployed and not go on a vacation or buy something I really shouldn't be buying.

Just my opinion on things.

They did tell you. It's all over the news.

Now it's just who finds a job first. Eventually everyone in Massachusetts, the "high cost" area, will be out of a job.

The people who are smart already left or are interviewing now.

It's better to interview for a job when you still have a job then to be unemployed and looking.

Unemployed people are the people that get the worst jobs, they have to settle and take whatever is offered.

Yes the pressure, uncertainty, wondering when is a definite toll on health. It’s a sad and ugly situation. It appears he tried to be as clear as possible in his comments but it leaves us still blowing in the wind. I guess when I see the first lay-off (maybe my own) I’ll be able to internalize this and really step up my game in finding a new job. Honestly I’m truly bummed out 30 years ago corporate America had decency towards its employees. Once the trend for layoffs began a-- o p it’s never been the same. Easy way out for the well heeled and connected board and ceos but for regular ppl itsbrital. It’s very hard to recover fully from a lay-off. You know why? There’s another one around the corner no matter where you end up and that is the awful truth and just as bad for your health.

Everyone is getting the boot by end of 2019. It’s so clear they are moving all jobs overseas.

Not sure what else you need to confirm.

This is why you get rid of debt and don’t make any big purchases or buy a house until you find a new job. Ride it out. Nothing lasts fir ever wrt a job. Always something better for those who don’t give up hope in their own ability to achieve something greater than a life at STT

This is what they want, though. If they cared about people and their health/ well being, the layoffs would be done all at once so people could pick up the pieces and move on.

It’s like their messing with you psychologically. Many will have nervous breakdowns over this, with the stress of debts to pay, kids to feed, sick parents to care for....etc.

Make no mistake, they want attrition as well so they don’t have to pay severance.

Have faith better things will come to those who love God and ask for His divine intervention in dealing with such matters. Been there done that and there is life after a layoff at STT. In fact, there is a much better life after STT....
