Thread regarding General Motors layoffs

Feel confident with date

I want to be clear this was not told to me but I've been putting it all together and feel very confident about this. It seems to me that the layoffs will begin February 4th and will go for 2-3 days. I am in Detroit...this may vary by location. We had to take a training and some of the information they provided implied beginning of February also in our last all people meeting they said that not all people will be here by the next all people meeting, which is February 12th. Along with other things I've heard, I feel this makes sense. Good luck to us all, whether you stay or go.

The layoffs have been public knowledge for months. You've had plenty of time to find another job if you wanted to get out before the layoffs.

I dont really get the keep hush on layoff news is all about. The way I see it, the earlier people know the better they can prepare and find another job before their last day.

I'm sure the layoffs will happen before the earnings broadcast.

I also heard Feb 4th, 5th theory, but with earnings scheduled to release on Feb 6th, I don't know if they will do on Feb 4th or 5th

Forget #oneteam if they won’t even tell you #onedate that everyone would like to know.

I've heard about the Feb 4th date from a manager who heard from their director. Take it for what it's worth...I don't know why management can't just come out an say it. What's wrong with being transparent?

This is what "One Team" looks to me!

The new employees do not have the experience to know that when these layoffs occur, the only certain thing is that these kind of layoffs will occur again in their lifetime with this company. Only experience can provide that knowledge.

We also thought we were untouchable and invincible at one point.

It’s ridiculous how long this is going on. Since October when 2019 portfolio was being cut. Then the voluntary severance and all the announcements. I have seen a number of people find other jobs and resign since coming back in January. I hope they are the ones that the company wanted to keep! I hope even more bail after the layoffs. My advice to the new younger people is to get experience here and head to an industry that is not as cyclical and to a company that cares more about employees.
