I left Sears in August. I have been on COBRA since that time. Does anyone know when Sears emerges from bankruptcy if my COBRA is still intact or does it go away? Thank you in advance for honest answers.

Another link (see below). It says after they emerge from 11 they have the right to terminate the plan. There are some exceptions for employees who retired before the chapter 11 filing. My Allstate health insurance agent told me that in his opinion he thinks they would keep the plan going... but that's just an opinion. Ask your auto/home insurance agent if he has contacts within his company for health insurance... a good health care broker can advise you on what policy might be best for you. At least Allstate offered this service. Cobra is so expensive that you should probably start looking into this soon... it's only meant to be a short-term bridge.

"Your group health plan must notify you within 60 days of any reduction in benefits. If a reorganizing [bankrupt] employer maintained several health plans and discontinues most of its plans, you may be eligible to continue coverage in its remaining plan."
If you receive the 60-day notice, you can use that as proof of special circumstances to enroll in a healthcare.gov plan outside the open enrollment period.
If Eddie cancels the group insurance plan it will cease to exist. It's not outside the realm of possibility.

COBRA coverage is valid for 18 months. Sears bankruptcy is independent from COBRA coverage. You will have COBRA coverage as long as you pay your premium.
