Thread regarding Walmart layoffs

Asst Mgr Update

There will be a lot of updates to Store Structure with Management. Most has to do with Asst Mgrs, Benefits and Store Hours so far.

A lot of Company savings in Changes to Asst Mgr headcount, Asst Mgr Compensation, and Benefits. Store Hours will be another savings area.

Here you go:

  1. All Asst Mgrs have been evaluated and ranked in a talent review process.

  2. Asst Mgrs were ranked similar to the the CoMgr rankings last year. Ask your Store Manager how they grouped you? If they are a good leader they will tell you the truth & try to look out for those that took care of them.

  3. Asst Mgrs that are retained will be talent balanced throughout the Region and Market. You may or may not stay in your current store.

  4. Asst Mgrs numbers will decrease due to future changes to store hours and store structure.

  5. Stores were evaluated base on sales and surrounding areas whether to be kept open 24 hours or not. Several stores will be changed from the 24 hour format to closing overnight. Closing will be 10pm to Midnight depending on the store. Several stores will remain open 24 hours based on sales volume overnight.

  6. Some stores could lose as many as 4 Asst Mgrs, due to the changes in hours of operation.

  7. Asst Mgrs retained will be changed to the same format as the Vision Center Mgrs. Asst Mgrs will be changed to an hourly rate and be required to clock in and out. Asst Mgr benefits will change as they are converted to an hourly associate. ie bonuses, PTO, short term disability etc....

  8. LOA policy is changing.

  9. Attendance policy is changing as well and there will be a different point system, it will be stricter than the current program. Points will be higher for weekends and holidays and will tie to bonus compensation.

Still to come:

  1. Supercenters, Divisions, Regions and Markets absorbing Neighborhood Markets. This is no doubt a future move that will be made at sometime.

  2. Realignments of Divisions, Regions and Markets.

  3. Asset Protection being consolidated or eliminated at Market level and above. Something coming on this as well.

Remember:

  1. Always look out for yourself as NO ONE has more interest in you than you! Be careful in who and what you believe.

  2. Always look to better yourself and grow with the changes.

  3. If you are let go, and over 20 years w/Company or 15 years w/Company and age 55, you can apply for your longterm discount card.

  4. Yes you are eligible to apply for unemployment.

Wishing everyone the best and no ill fate on anyone that has worked so hard to grow to their current level of leadership at Walmart.

It is not the same company as it was in the past.

Please add comments on what you may or may not know in regards to the upcoming changes.

@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@@

I was going to make a separate post, but I'll just piggyback on this because it has since it has a lot of views. Some inaccuracies on the original post.

  1. Tuesday was mostly spent covering market/region realignment. That will be happening within 2 weeks. Before 1st qtr.

  2. AP, HR, FOM are all getting consolidated at the market level not just AP. More so HR

  3. The ASM thing is part true. Only the ACCM will be hourly now. No overnight mgr in a bulk of the stores. Plus bonus structure will be Less.

  4. The biggest shock here is multi-unit store managers. Depending on sales volume store managers will cover 2 stores.

This will be around 30% or 40% of stores. I don't know the other factors.

  1. The op says store closing times affect management structure that is not accurate at all. Multiple stores close at 12 they still have overnight

For one thing there is ZERO INCENTIVE to work on holidays since you’ve stripped us of holiday pay. Including the extra dollar on Sundays was robbed from us to... And has for long term employees. New people are making almost what we’re making. Talk about a slap in the face.

Point being is everyone swears by the information they know, but does not post the factual information.

If this is cut and dry, whats the compensation? If you know the bonus structure is indeed changing then you should know what it is changing to. How would anyone know that it is just "changing" other than by word of mouth. If you knew you would know all of the detail.

I do agree that the attendance policy is changing also. But my point being is everyone has a speculation. Whats the new policy? Everyone SWEARS to a change but cannot state what is actually changing.

My point being is all posts sound opinionated. If there were factual information it would go way more into detail.

Its the "sink or swim" PURGE "hunger game" b---s--- at at the end that leads me to believe you truly do not know your a-- from your elbow.

As for the outlier positions such as AP ASM, and ACC being rated in the same category as other facility management, this is true, and this is exactly how it was done at Sam’s Club. At Sam’s club the they put grocery managers in charge of asset protection who had new even read AP-09 before and wouldn’t know an internal if it fell into their office in a gift-wrapped box labeled internal…

As for salaried managers going hourly, I do not know if this is true or not but I have heard rumors that they were setting up quite a few salaried manager task to now be done by hourly associates.

Third party workplace associates will be taking over hiring, and most other personnel task so it is true personnel will be gone, everyone has known this for a while, no one just seems to know when.

To the person who said that they know for a fact that Assistant managers and AP ASMS were not ranked together, you are dead wrong, and to top it off, AP ASMs were not ranked by their MAPM who knows and understands their role and job function. They were ranked by store managers who mostly ranked them on their assistant manager abilities in operations and not in AP.

Attendance policy changing is confirmed, no need to even continue bringing it up

Bonus structure will be lowered substantially this year for all managers, this has been in the workings for a while now also.

An imminent threat is looming. Managers are being forced ranked to compete against each other in a pit of raging fire, the storm is on the horizon, it’s time to sink or swim, conquer or face defeat: The hunger games have now begun!

That is so funny that Aldi is knocking on Walmart. When you think about it WalMart is only changing to keep low prices for their customers with all the changes coming from the government. With a lot of retailers going out of business because they didn’t change Walmart continues to come up with new ways to provide faster and more convenient ways to serve their customers! Thank you WalMart for being their for us and helping us save money!

Walmarts Min is $11/hr. Target is $12/hr. What company do you even work for? Have you ever used google to obtain any information that is actually factual and already on the internet?

@XaD4MnD-tgr

..If you are LUCKY you get a general 2% increase.. which would be solid performer.

ASMs -- based off 50 hours. Unless you are overnight. 45 hours worked. 1 hour lunch.

Why be an AP ASM/ACCM and be calibrated. How? Are they going to take an ACCM and make them an AP ASM if the position is open because someone else was terminted/vice versa?

What about complexity of the stores? Academy stores, complex stores, RPZ? etcetc.

*you got me with the DC however. Didn't know that was a thing!

I think that you are off key. Just because jobs post for different positions doesn't mean that your calibration is different, I was told this same ranking or grouping happened for all ASMs no matter the area. Ask your Store Manager.

The Company looked into making ASMs hourly previously but could not move fast enough before the pay update to 48.5, they have been working on this for over a year.

The Company is also behind competitors starting wages, Target is at $15 an hour starting, Walmart is still at $13.

Asst Mgrs are based at 48 hours a week not 50. At 48 x 52 = 2496 hours a year. $48,500 / 2496 = $19.43 per hour without including premium or overtime pay which makes the starting hourly rate less when those are factored in. ASMs only get 3% raise a year if lucky. That is why the quality of ASMs have declined over the years.

Grouping is the same that was used with CoMgrs restructure - Red (gone); Yellow (retained may move or find another position in the Company); Green (position for sure).

Look up the qualifications for a long term discount card and that is what it states.

I think that it is happening, when I don't know, but sooner than later.

No one cares about store associates. This is supposed to be about the home office Associates to do the planning and long-term strategy not the drones who slide merchandise over a scanner. You will all be replaced except for a skeleton crew with robots and automated I am working to implement a new system at Walmart that's going to eliminate 80% of the hourly workers in area.

I only believe part of this post, and usually I believe a lot on here.

  1. If you have more than 5 days of PTO that need to be rolled over due to "exceptions" you can speak with the proper leadership for that. Nobody would email or write Doug McMillion. It just posted to the WIRE EC+ today?

  2. How would they calibrate AP ASM and ACCM with a regular ASM when both positions have to be applied for separately. You need specific background check for AP ASM and are not allowed to be rotated as is due to this.

  3. I do believe the store structure will change, but why go hourly? What sense does that make if we are based off of a 50 hour work week. Either they would reduce to 40 hours or have to pay OT. Also, state specific they would make 1.5x on Sunday in specific states. Unless the work week is on reduction also. Wouldn't this have been done before the pass of the 48.5k base pay raise?

  4. Store Managers, have done performance evaluations, what is "grouping"

  5. What would AGE have to do with applying for a lifetime discount card? Is that even legal?

The only difference between this post and the rest on here is that ASMs would be hourly and benefits would be changing. Otherwise, this is the same as the rest of the posts.

If we know the cold hard truth, elaborate. Who will be effected, how, why, whats the compensation? How many hours will be worked per asm? WHATS THE POINTS SYSTEM FOR HOURLY!?

The speculation is there. I believe the company will go Daystock. I believe due to that they will have changes with ASM structure. But nothing is ever elaborated. It's always the same rumor typed in a different format!

There will be no severance packages, those are a thing of the past.

You will be classified as unfit for future progress of the Company. You may get 60 days pay and that will be it.

Make sure that you have used all your PTO by Jan 31, you will only receive 5 days if let go.

If you have had your PTO cancelled and have more than 5 days to carry over then I would write a Letter to Doug McMillian and inform him of the issue.

It will get answered quickly.

If not you will lose those days.
