Thread regarding Dream Center Education Holdings, LLC (DCEH) layoffs

I truly am sorry, I really did try to do the right things

Students: for starters I am sorry you were screwed I was as well (as an employee)

Here goes:

I worked in admissions and finance for AU (online-Pittsburgh) when I was hired I was told I would be placing students in programs AND ALWAYS DO WHAT IS BEST FOR STUDENT SUCCESS. I did, in admissions I would be the rep who if I felt you were not a fit or couldn't cut it I would tell you (for your sake and not to get in mounds of debt and to be honest, most students we pushed through are not college material, sorry it's the truth though.) I also took the time to quickly google search for other schools in students area that might be a better fit and just send them the results - of course my manager didn't like that and we constantly butted heads about this.

When I jumped to finance, it was the same deal, DO WHAT PUTS STUDENT IN BEST FINANCIAL POSITION. I did, my manager would try to have me make students make payments to lower balances. Well guess what, if I saw you were eligible for the Student Success Grant or any other Grant offered by AU, I gave it to you to either wipe out said balance or reduce it as much as possible. Again something they didn't like.

Sorry for the long post but I did just want to say that there were some honestly good people working for this dumpster fire to help the students out. Good luck, and God speed to all

@Ai is No More - though I left my recruiting position with Ai several months ago, I keep following what's happening with DCEH and the schools and students' lives it destroyed, beating myself up for ever representing such a corrupt organization. I appreciated your message above so much, because while I was certainly in no position to even get a glimpse into what was really going on, I've not been able to assuage my guilt and have been losing a lot of sleep (and weight) over it all. Your message helped me put things in perspective. I'm still furious, but less so at myself. There's no way I could have known. I just wish I could help the students who are victims of such corruption - both corporate and, let's face it, government.

I never though of Ai as sub-prime education.

It is a specific education for a niche employment.

As an instructor, I know I gave my students the best information to succeed in their field.

I can't speak for the other instructors that were/are too lazy to keep up with the latest technology so as to inform the student of current pipelines, nor fail students who could not grasp the concepts.

I've seen the bar lowered and lowered and wonder why the hell certain students were accepted into programs they had no business being in and when I did fail them for being incompetent, they were passed by my AD and Dean. Now they are near graduation, I still cannot pass them and I know they will never get a job in the field because THEY ARE INCOMPETENT!

And no, I did not know of the slimy fraud until I was a few years in, and no I did not leave because I HAVEN'T FOUND ANOTHER JOB YET! Although, I am starting to get some bites from Universities... (fingers crossed)

I super like teaching in my field, I thought Ai was a decent school for a niche market...

It s---s that the ones at the top ruined it for the rest... I hope their final destination is jail, but I have a feeling they played a loophole game and won't go down. Trump-minded greedy a--holes.

The one thing I hope these students realize is that is wasn’t your ‘grad team’ or their managers that put the school in this position. It’s the greedy corporate employees whom made this happen. Every employee that walked into those buildings each day are not held accountable for poor corporate money management.

There really were a few good people working for AI. Many were not in a position to know what was really going on. Most of the financial and recruiting improprieties seemed to start years back, and as most of the staff seem to have been in their 1st roll as an employee at any kind if school, I honestly believe that quite a few really lacked any frame of reference for knowing how bad these schools they were working for were. After all, it only takes a few bad apples to cook the books and write the policies that turn good institutions into bad ones. I hope those that really did their best go on with open eyes into whatever jobs you take next in your careers. As for us former students?? Well, we intend to fight on and see to it that the bad apples get what they deserve in a court of law. This started with EDMC.

@dqv, using financial aid whether it is from a reputable institution or sup-par would put anyone in debt, it's common f---ing sense!!!. How many people do you know can pay for a program in full or out of pocket?

I used financial aid when earning my degree from a reputable institution and yes it did put me in debt. However my degree holds up better because it is from an institution people have actually heard of and I can make payments (never missed, more than minimum due) because quite honestly the education was better which led to a better paying job after. And if you could ACTUALLY COMPREHEND MY ORIGINAL POST. you would see that I did not do the shady stuff because I would not push unquailfied students through, or not give them additional aid (grants/scholarships) they deserved.

@Kne,

If your comment is in reference to the position I've held, please tell me how not pushing unqualified students through or giving students grant and scholarship money they deserved fraud? Was there fraud from the top ie BR and DCEH? Absolutely, was I apart of this scheme, unfortunately being employed there one could argue, but did I PERSONALLY fraud students, no. For the students I did not work with I cannot speak for. But at the end of the everyone up top will crash and burn like the universities

Just because you read my initial comment...does not mean you can comprehend it

Thank you for this note! I am very sad as the school had so much potential and accreditation issues were not due to academics but because of our management being shady. I feel bad for the students as we have some programs like certificate programs that would be hard for our students to transfer to without incurring a lot more debt.

HBK, I appreciate your post and wish you the best. Despite what some people are posting, there were many dedicated staff and faculty who were at the Art Institutes for the right reasons. I'm sorry that there are so many out of a job, and students who are left high and dry. It's a very sad and frustrating time.
