Thread regarding SAP layoffs

Stay civil

This is a tough time for all of us, but there is no reason for people to post the negative things about Bill McDermott that are being said. Just as we would like others to be respectful of us in all circumstances, we should be respectful and kind with those who have been made redundant. And despite any negative feelings/stress, we should be respectful and kind with individual managers, who are all human beings just like us.

And for the record I think it’s easy to argue Bill is a fantastic leader for SAP — just look at how the company has transformed under his leadership and how our value has jumped over the last ten years

Thank you for your input Bill, please pass me some more blue kool-aid while I review my severance package and get ready to be kicked out!

Great Q1 results and stock movement. More evidence Bill has been great for SAP. Let's stay civil, friends and colleagues. Seems like no additional waves of layoffs

Personally I find the references to one-eyed pirates (probably aimed at Bill) highly offensive. Anyone who has to resort to such cheap and underhand language automatically disqualifies him/herself for further civilised discussion.

Is it really that hard to maintain a minimum level of decency, even on such a difficult topic? Really?

I hope not!

And Luka putting us all on a 'fitness program' while his 10+ million gluttony balloons to 20 million - now, expecting civility...

I fully agree with the first reply to the initial posting regarding the decline of the culture. I also agree with the idea that it is not something unique to the US or Germany, but rather something global.

I still remember the times when people were allowed to make a difference, to take on responsibility, and to implement useful stuff from initial customer conversation all the way down to development, shipment and customer rollouts. Nowadays? Several layers of management, paper pushers, excel clowns and other chuff between customers and those doing the work and knowing their stuff.

And this is happening on a global scale. Point-in-case: a certain organization run by a manager with the initials GK. An organization where the difference between T4 and T5 is that if you are T5 you are allocated two lines in a sprint excel to hack into the system instead of one. All split up into excel lines by a cascade of managers. No responsibility or potential influence on the solution in sight for anyone except for a tiny select elite.

And this is not the only L1 or L2 area where that happens. The same is true in the really big areas as well.

So much for the evolution of the culture.

Sorry, I don’t agree he is a good leader. Good leaders don’t make such a awful decision such as buying company for $7billion when it is not even worth $2billion. And then layoff people simply because they had to recover this money somehow

This is a layoff site I hope the initial poster know. People come here p-ss-d off to vent. Try being civil when you lose your job and thinking about all the visionary statements he made.

The retirement package is not sweet enough so no one bit. The layoff has no transparency when that is preached by upper to practice. It is hard to believe any more.

I agree with your comments regarding civility. Personal attacks on Bill --- let's face it, his eye --- are just unacceptable. Let's keep it above board and act professionally.

But, regarding his leadership and, overall, the quality of our entire leadership team... Honestly, people need to vent and when things like this happen people are entitled to air their opinions --- educated or not --- regarding the competence of our leadership. Personally, I don't entirely agree with you that he is a "fantastic" leader nor, for that matter, is Luka. Bottom line, yes... the value has jumped and our stockholders are satisfied (at least for small timeslices, until they demand more and more) but the culture here is absolutely in the toilet. I can see why they do what they do, but the approach is myopic. And, to be clear, I don't think this is an "American" problem. Germany drives as much of this shift in culture as America does. This is, quite simply, a leadership issue. Regardless, this is a leadership philosophy that has been welcomed by the "company" with open arms, and this is the culture we have to work within. Honestly, the evolution in value is impressive. The evolution of the culture is a crying shame.
