Thread regarding Dream Center Education Holdings, LLC (DCEH) layoffs

Email sent to students announcing Argosy closure on Friday (tomorrow)

Keep in mind the chances of a sale being approved by tomorrow is not likely. The DoE is NOT going to be able to approve something like that so quickly.

“Dear University Community,

On Friday, I shared with you that the Department of Education had made the decision to end Argosy University’s participation in student federal financial assistance programs, commonly known as “Title IV” financial aid. We have been working since that time to determine the best path forward for students. I am writing to share that Argosy University, Phoenix (which includes Argosy University, Online Programs) is at risk of closure this Friday, March 8 because of financial constraints resulting from this decision.

There are a few options for our campus at this point:

If a buyer acquires the campus and meets state, federal, and accreditor requirements, the campus may continue operations. This would mean that students would continue their studies without interruption.

If we have a transfer partner that has an interest in teaching out the campus, the campus may continue operations. This could mean that students would continue their studies without interruption.

If a buyer does not acquire the campus, it will close this Friday, March 8 and students will be provided information about transfer partners that are willing to assist them in reaching their educational goals.

Should the campus close, we would work with our accreditors, state regulators and the U.S. Department of Education to provide options for our students. These include:

Transferring to another higher education institution that is not part of DCEH (for a list of partner institutions, visit https://www.dcedh.org/partner-institutions).

For students who elect not to continue their educational program, the USDE will provide them with the opportunity to apply for a closed school loan discharge. For additional information, students will directed to the USDE website at: https://studentaid.ed.gov/sa/repay-loans/forgiveness-cancellation/closed-school. There is an important trade-off students should consider with this option – if you have your loans discharged, you cannot transfer your credits to a comparable program at another campus. Be sure to weigh your options carefully.

For students receiving Veteran Benefits who elect not to continue their educational program, the US Department of Veterans Affairs provides the following information regarding restoration of VA benefits, https://www.benefits.va.gov/gibill/fgib/restoration.asp.

We are partnering with other schools and organizations to provide resources to help students make an informed decision. We will host virtual information fairs for online students this Thursday and Friday, March 7 and 8 to discuss the possibility of transferring some or all of your credits to other institutions that accept them with the goal of completing your program. At these information fairs, you can meet with representatives from schools offering teach-out or transfer opportunities.

Information webinars will be held on:

You should obtain a copy of your official academic transcripts. You can obtain one at no charge on campus or via the student portal (please note that we are working to disable the pay feature currently on the student portal for these types of requests). To obtain an unofficial copy of your transcript, log on to the student portal and go to the “My Academics” tab. There, you can also order an official copy. On the student portal, you can also can access your financial ledger under the “My Finances” tab and then the “My account tab.” The information posted on the student portal is the most up to date financial statement available from the university. Please also note that the university catalog is available at https://www.argosy.edu/admissions/academic-catalog.

Sincerely,

Anthony Spano

Campus president? Seriously? Shouldn't this be sent from the Ottowa University people who are actually housing these students. Sorry Spano, your campus was shut down...your not a campus president. Your just a stooge. Remember, your paying this guy quite a bit of money to run a non-existent campus, great money management there. This guy couldn't keep his own campus functional and is continued to be rewarded, please tell me again whats wrong with this industry?
