Difference in severance

Can I ask people from different locations (countries) to post what their severance is like? I'd be nice to know how much it varies and if some of us drew the short end of the stick in this.

Also, how are your health care benefits handled after your final day?

Thanks in advance.

Is it legal for companies to discriminate who they want out and who can be in the office ?

Do you still have access to badge and equipments? If so, it's business as usual. You are not required to come in to work but you are welcome to. If they want you out, they would've cut all access the day they give you the news. Computer forensics in play though.

Can the laid off engineer be denied permission to work from the office (till 5/15)?

All of the information is in the corporate portal, at least in the US. Employee Services - Me at SAP - Work Events - Leaving the company. For NA, look at SAP Separation Pay Plan.

In the US those up to T4 level get 2 weeks per year and T5 and above get 3 weeks per year of service. All get 6 months of COBRA

Singapore - one month for each year worked. And pro-rated bonus and leave can be encashed.

Wrong, I'm T4 in the US and only got 2 weeks per year. T3 got minimum 12 weeks, at 2 weeks per.

The layoff pay is standardized. In the US, the general rule of thumb is that a T3 gets 2 weeks pay for every year of tenure (minimum 8 weeks), and T4 gets one month paid for every year of tenure (not sure of the minimum).

Plus six months of money for continuing healthcare under COBRA, as a lump sum distributed once (less applicable taxes).
