Thread regarding Sears layoffs

No patio furniture?!

Was told by DM we would not be getting any patio furniture or outdoor living product until June AND it would be a very limited assortment. And yes, we are filling the entire seasonal area with overstock sporting goods, huge plastic kyacks, and storage tubs.

Our store sells out of most outdoor living by the end of July. We clearance out floor displays and a handful of unsold items every year. So, ordering has been on the money every year. What happened this year... who dropped the ball (or thousands of balls in the ballpit)???

Could it be that the orders would have gone in around the time bankruptcy was officially declared? Bankruptcy must have affected the supply chain. I can't see how it wouldn't.

Maybe it's for the better because when I was there the patio furniture was super cheap in build quality. It looked nice on the sales floor but once they were taken home, set outside and used, about one out of three of any customer who bought one came back six months to a year later very upset because the welds broke loose on a table or chair and they wanted their money back, which we couldn't do, of course. One guy just dumped his broken patio set behind the store on the middle of the night, for us to disassemble and dispose, with a scathing note taped to it.

I can imagine that Sears lost quite a few customers over the patio sets and gas grills as those were very cheaply made and of disposable quality. Better to either get better quality patio furniture in or not carry it at all.

It could be that since Sears is so broke they will try to buy from the cheapest vendor and give property to the big companies like Walmart, Target, Costco etc. Once again a bad move from Sears in our area patios sold pretty well once again a failure from the company as always.
