Thread regarding Devon Energy Corp. layoffs

Why not all at once?

Seriously, why cut 200 people and then say that's it, FOR NOW? Leave the rest of us worrying and wondering when the ax is going to fall once again. What's the point?

Just get it over with so we can stop stressing and focus on our work once again! This can't be good for employee productivity, I'm sure...

Because the remaining cuts is being reserved for those who do not conform to the "new" Devon and those who refuse to be a "yes man"

This below post is the very reason I employ hundreds of safety professionals in the field. You do not know safety in the field until I say you do through the administration of a hard hat sticker (genuine). Comments like these force me to hold your hand and embrace you in a loving protective safety cocoon. My ears burn when I hear this type of talk.

If it continues, I will not allow it!!! You sir/ma’am will feel my wrath as I spin you into a lockout tag out move that will baffle bystanders, all while writing a JSA specifically addressing your blatant disrgard to my authority. The captain of the seas will not tolerate this attitude.

It’s an archaic medium. So they need clicks to make money. Adding the “for now” at the end of the headline only is to drive fear and therefore more clicks. It’s certainly more than 200. Watch the town hall replay on strata and fast forward to the Q&A. W speaks to the average cost of an average employee. That would be more in line wth numbers you should expect.

“Moral of the story. This is an oil company. IC Technical staff make up maybe 10% of the company as a whole. Maybe 20% of the tower. Makes you wonder what in the world the other 90% actually do here. Certainly they don’t find us o&g and help to drill and complete and produce it. They add redundant process that only get in the way and stop those who actually drive the needle. No one cares about your planning and tracking and red tape. We are all safe. We are all thinking safely. We don’t need a fleet of humans who’ve never worked in the field to tell us how to be safe. If you’ve never been a pivotal member in getting a well online. See the door.”
