Maybe The Art Institutes and South University can sell Amway products in their bookstores, with MAGA hats.

Some of you are so busy pointing the blame in one direction or another when the truth is, all involved are guilty. The numerous mistakes that led to this were apparent at every level. DCEH is a scam, so for those that want to defend them, explain the repeated attempts to skirt or break rules set forth in the approval of the sale (WOZ being just a small example), Dept of Ed is a joke that if anything, kept the schools running because they removed rules in place to protect the students from people like DCEH.

It honestly would have been best that the schools closed when EDMC left, and that’s the biggest disappointment. I for one was very optimistic in becoming a nonprofit, but the reality is, all of these people involved TOGETHER allowed for all of these things to happen, no matter the collateral damage as long as they got their checks.

Maybe it’s time to stop blaming one party or another when the only reason this debate can be had is because each party made massive mistakes that led to this.

David, thank you for the information and the receipts that support it. What a mess!

Hi, "Sick of People That Lie for a Living Observer," I have written multiple times about the people you mentioned. See, for example: https://www.republicreport.org/2019/whos-who-in-devos-dream-center-college-collapse/

Colbeck was set up by MIke Lau and Diane "all I want is a brain" Jones at DoE..she constantly has to find a scapegoat to deflect her utter stupidity. Jason Beckman at Colbeck has a great reputation as a straight shooter...unlike the cronyism of Diane Jones and DC Toll Booth Wayne "need to take a shower after meeting Wayne" Johnson.

Wish Betsy would wake up to these people that DO NOT represent her stellar family well at all...clean the swamp Betts!

Why hasn't anyone, like "Halpern-the-Great-Protector of Students", focused on the greedy Hedge Fund manager Mike Lau of Candlewood that genius school operator, Diane Jones (who goes by some made up fictitious Department of Education "Clerk-With-Too-Much-Power" title, anointing Mike Lau and his sleazy education lawyer, Michael "for a million I can make your dreams come true" Goldstein lawyer as the "Official Workout Agent"???... rather than a CEO that helped build GCU (LOPE) into the fantastic faith-based school, as HER person who can "save the schools"?

Greed + Incompetent Regulator = BAD DEAL FOR STUDENTS.

Brent Richardson and his team had all the schools almost turned around when the DoE was seduced by a hedge fund manager who is taking all the cash and leaving students, faculty and employees bleeding on the ground...greed at its best fueled by incompetent Diane Jones and Wayne Johnson who are just swimming in the swamp lining up favors for thier next cushy pay-back corporate gig. Halpern may indeed be an AHole, but glad he is asking tough questions. Hope there is a Hearing...Richardson looking pretty good now!

I reached out to Colbeck when their role became apparent. No response. If they or Studio execs want to talk with me, I want to hear their story.

Ya know, @XP7CxhW-fqw, Brent Richardson said the same thing: that I have a "political" agenda. Maybe you and Brent can get together and explain what that agenda is. My agenda is protecting students, taxpayers, teachers, and honest institutions against predatory practices that ruin people's lives. You want to call that political? If Colbeck was so proud of its new role, why did it hide behind the Education Principle Foundation (called the Colbeck Foundation until Dec. 31) and Studio?

You know nothing about Studio, Halperin. You have no idea of the demonstrably solid stuff they are already doing in the current ventures.

Studio/EPF/Colbeck apparently now has enlisted its own cadre of sock puppets who pretend to be rank and file employees as they attack critics. I guess that means they see themselves as moving into the big leagues of for-profit higher education. And our tax money pays for it.

Studio will do little more than pillage everything of value, mainly student finances. If the schools under them do survive it will be in name only. Any reputation they once had has been permanently tarnished.

So, you think 'many of these schools were worth saving,' but you are not satisfied with the only company in the world willing to put up the money and take the risk to save them? Exactly what company would you have been happy with, David? A not-for-profit? A government agency? You seem very naive...IF that response letter is true, Studio was the last lady at the bar. The schools would have all been shut down back in January. It seems like you should be a pinch more curious, and a tad more intellectually honest, Halperin. The students at South University and the remaining campuses at Art Institute have a chance thanks to Studio...I for one am rooting them on - who's side are you on!? Obviously not the alumni, students, faculty or staff. Must be your own political agenda you're serving...

Studio and Dottore are going to spend a lot of money fighting about who is a less deserving guardian of taxpayer dollars and students' futures. Neither seems worthy. The Department of Education completely screwed this up. Unlike Corinthian, ITT, or Kaplan, I think many of the EDMC schools were worth saving, and it's too bad they weren't sold to a better operator.

IF there’s any truth in this, DCEH and Dottore are to blame for this mess and they’re the ones we are trusting to save us all. IT’S OVER.

So... Studio wanted the Art Institues. EGCC wanted Argosy, not to save it, but to close all ground locations and merge the accreditation and programs of study with their own. Dottore and DCEH has their own agenda, forced the schools into receivership. Got himself appointed to over see it all. Then messed it all up so bad that all the schools are going to end up closing!

I might have missed it but where did Education Principle Foundation come from in all of that?

What's your take after reading that, Halperin?

Wow, that's a lot to unpack. So, the receiver was in on all the negotiations with restructuring and Studio. Goes ahead with the receivership despite being told not to, to get EGCC to buy ( who has since backed out?) And now has no one to blame but himself. Wants money back from Studio, that he contractually agreed to help the schools that he operates.

How is any judge going to say yes to this injunction? It appears the receiver schools are done, especially Argosy.

Did studio actually hold up their end if the deal though? Other than opening bank accounts for title IV funds, we haven't seen their " work" on campus.
