Thread regarding Dream Center Education Holdings, LLC (DCEH) layoffs

On stipends

Long story short: The funds were used for payroll and payouts because DCEH/Argosy didn't have the cash to begin with. Payroll was for Staff & Faculty. Albeit the payouts were excessive to those who got them.

I will stress this. There is NO solution to get our stipends any quicker. It's out of our hands, unless you want to cause a scene and protest or leave the school. Which if people take that lead, will just make things worse for students who literally have one more quarter and just want to finish and get done. (Myself again and many others.) Because the more students who leave, the more reason they'll shut down all the schools.

I can see the other side of this and that maybe you should leave and transfer while it's still available, but then again.

Catch 22. Damn'd if you do, Damn'd if you don't.

My advice, keep going to your classes, go part time if you have to. If you haven't already, try to get a job or 2nd job or even do some freelancing to help pay the bills. You shouldn't AT ALL heavily rely on any college loan/return to pay your bills. It's a privilege to have them and not a right.

Luckily for my situation I have enough just to pay rent and some groceries through my own means.

Best of luck, and please do not be aggressive to any Staff or Faculty about this situation. They don't control anything and will tell you if they knew. It's all corporate.

Bumped from @XLE1Xzg-ghz for important info.

The real disturbing issue is that this is not the first time that many of the people who were in the roles listed above destroyed universities or colleges. These people also worked (and in one case lead) for-profits such as DeVry and UOP. The outcome is the same - fat pockets for those that made very questionable decisions while students, staff, and ultimately taxpayers pay the price. Very sad when you think about it. How do you sleep at night? Has pride and hubris blinded you to the point where you do not see the chaos you create?

I only hope that other institutions, for-profit or otherwise, realize that the reason many of these institutions are in trouble or have shut down, or have other issues is not the business model itself. The problems arise from the leaders and decisions makers in those organizations. They cannot see beyond themselves. The only positive spin to put on the news that Argosy lost their ability to Title IV is that there is one less predator out there for unscrupulous leaders to infect and harm all stakeholders. I hope other institutions take heed.

This scam lives off hope. For for this and that and the promise of something better. But now it's more than apparent that one can not eat hope or wait for the benevolence of the malevolent to take you by the hand say it's all right.

It's a hard lession to learn but the ship sunk a while back and everyone is collateral damage. It's over. You can move on when you cycle through the stages of grief and loss. Right now most are stuck on denial. Damn these people but they will always say it was your choice. But is is ever anyone's choice to be set up to lose while paying your way, making good grades, being respectful to your teachers, turning in all assignments on time and hoping, but not really believing, that decency would win out in the end. This isn't the way it's suppose to be but has devolved into. What a mess. I would say salvage what you can but in the light of day this investment is sunk. Damn these people!

Agreed although the funds also went to bonuses for upper level execs

Just prior to everything moving to the receiver: $750,000 in payouts to:

Chairman of the Board's law firm: $350k

SVP HR: $40k (still working at DCEH)

Chief Student Services Officer: $60k (still working at DCEH)

Director, Student Services: $30k

SVP Reg. Affairs/Compliance: $40k Still at DCEH

CTO: $50k

SVP Online Enrollment: $50k

SVP Strategic Initiatives: $60k

Operations Senior Analyst: $50k (still at DCEH)

Students are not getting their stipends, but this is happening the day before the Receiver takes control?
