The top level managers from CA that were given a position in Broadcom had influence on the decisions, for example in Support that would be Matt Johnson. But, in cases where there was noone in the US that could make a case for someone, it was basically pot luck what you got.

You could clearly see that in some of the teams where the top performers were let go or received a very short transition whereas people generally considered as "useless" were given longer transition or even stay ( I can only think that Broadcom then made a decision based on salary vs tenure and kept the cheapest people).

In short, your previous direct managers were usually not involved in the decision at all, and would not be able to tell you why most of the decisions were made.

BRCM probably used the formula CA of old used.

Get any rating/ranking information (new CA got away from this but may still be in the HR system), and then put all the employees in descending order.

Unless someone shouts out to save the most expensive people, they are usually the first to be cut.

The last to be cut (i.e. the "stays") are the workhorses who aren't overpaid.

I'm a "stay"

Before it all went down I asked my 2 managers (SDM and PDM) whom I trust(ed) and they said the lists were being prepared by Broadcom personnel and none of them had any idea what would happen.

They both got let go and I'm still here so I tend to believe them.
